  • Zespri Kiwi Ice-Pops: A Lazy Saturday Recipe

    10.14.2012

check out how to make kiwi ice-pops here!

Being in a house with no kitchen, there are only a few things that would make you do things you don't normally do. A bags of kiwis, a newly bought ice-bar maker from Daiso for only RM5 (comes in a set of 4 colorful "batang") and the craving to have your own ice-pop, old school style. I google how to make kiwi ice pops found a recipe and after 6 hours, smile sheepishly while sucking on my sour kiwi pops. It was a success!

kiwis is packed with Vitamin C

I have been loving kiwis since I was young. I owe my good looks thanks to it! ahem. You'd be surprise that kiwis not just taste good, they're also pack with Vitamin C, high in Anti-Oxidant, Fibre and great for us women to ward of bloating and that blocked feeling. Click here to read more about Kiwis to justify to your darling why you need to buy a boxful back home.

a lazy Saturday afternoon turned cool

The original recipe of kiwi ice-pops can be found here. I changed it slightly because I don't have a kitchen, I didn't have limes so I opt for lemon instead which made my kiwi ice-pops a sourish fun slurp. Also I didn't want to add a cup of sugar because I want this to be as "fruitful" as possible.  The sugar water (syrup) stops the ice-pops from becoming too hard. You want it to be able to bite into it without having to chew through a block of ice. Also you can customized it, say if you don't want it to be too sourish, you can cut down on the lemon and add more sugar.

    Ingredients
    • 1/2 bowl of hot Water
    • 2 spoonful of Sugar
    • 4 Kiwis
    • 1 cup Fresh Lemon Juice (2 Lemons)

    Directions

Start by boiling hot water. Peel the kiwis and cut them up (any size, we're going to smash them anyway). Then leave them in a bowl. Prepare the fresh lemon juice by cutting the lemons into half, then squeeze them with all your might. You'll have a cup of lemon juice ready, be sure to throw away the seeds. Pour boiling water into a bowl, filling up half. Add two spoonful of sugar (or a few spoonfuls if you want it to be sweeter). Stir and set aside to cool.

Smash your kiwis with a spatula or your hand. I used my clean hands to smash them into pulp. Then pour in lemon juice and sugar water. Stir again and pour mixture into ice-bar mold, put in the freezer for about 6 hours. Any excess you can pour into ice making trays to create kiwi ice, to drink with 7-up or Sprite!

freshly squeeze lemon juice & kiwi pulp

add in the sugar water & lemon juice

     pour into ice-bar makers

    excess used for ice-trays

after 6 hours, I have kiwi ice-pops! slurps

also a refreshing 7-up Kiwi Surprise
(sour and refreshing at the same time)

Hope you like my blog post. Be sure to loosen the grip on the ice-bar makers by washing the bottom part with running water, so it loosens up. Then pull the holder to see your newly homemade kiwi ice-pops. Mine is super good, sourish and fun to suck at the same time. Pardon me! I sound so wrong *lol*.
