    TCM INTERNAL MEDICINE

It has been nearly two months since I sprained my knee at an "event". What happened?. Well I was dancing and then my knee suddenly "pop". It felt like it was out of my control and detached from my hip. I didn't feel any pain *surprised* and my fiance told me it could be that it was so painful, my body was in shock and my brain stop me from sensing. Without feeling any pain, I didn't know what was going on. This was my first time and I was scared. I was wheel chair bound throughout the day and finally friends sent me to Universiti Hospital's Emergency & Trauma Ward. I did start to feel pain at this time and I still could not walk. After 6 hours, 3 doctors, an X-ray and an intravenous pain killer (injected via a cannula on my hand) the doctors couldn't tell what was wrong and sent me home with pain killers. Not even a bandage was given. They say come back after 5 days if I still experience pain so I could be referred to a sports injury department for MRI checking.

I would like to take this time to show my gratitude and thanks to two friends who cared for me on that day. They brought me to the hospital, waited 6 hours and also sent me home. I don't know what I will do without you two since my fiance is in Dubai, thank you Eric and Caroline

The next morning, I woke up in pain. Any slight movement on my right leg, made me regretful of my decision to attend the event yesterday. I contacted up my friend Candy Lee, who is like a big sister to me. She recommended and scheduled a visit to her Chinese Physician at Yuen Medicare, Taman Gembira (near Kuchai Lama), a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) center who does "Tit Tar" meaning in Cantonese for fall-hit. Tit Tar is a traditional Chinese medicine healing system for the treatment of bone, and joint muscle misalignment. Today, it is utilized to heal body traumas caused by everyday physical exertions, accidents and sports activities.

After work she came to get me and could see the difficulty that I was in. We arrived at the center (residential area) and I was lucky to be early. Normally places like these, there would be a long waiting line (SS2, Sea Park, etc) but this is a hidden gem here. Each time I visit here I could see their regulars are old folks who needs care.

parking space is a problem here, try not to park in front the house
if it's not an extreme case bcoz old folks / people who can't walk
needs to make it inside the shortest route possible

take a number to wait, they loan me a walker
(kesian me coz I couldn't walk)

On my first visit, I met the Chinese Physician Mr.Ng who could not speak English that well but was able to speak in multiple languages such as Cantonese, Mandarin and even Hokkien. I spoke broken Hokkien with him, explaining what happened. He massaged my gigantic knee area, obviously swollen, red and hot. I was clenching my teeth for the ordeal to be over but it become more bearable and suddenly all that tightness and pain lifted away (not entirely but significantly making a difference). He then bandage my knee with a topical herbal plaster (must be removed the early next day to avoid allergies). I was also given a packet of herbal pills to take and to refrain from walking at home.

The next day I visited the centre again and this time I met Chinese Physician lady Ms.Chee (I'm thinking the wife?) she could speak English well and I explained to her what happened. She examined my knee, noticing the black and blue marks on each side. The swelling was building up again and she asked if I am okay to let her do acupuncture and "bekam" to remove the bad blood (via suction cups). I nodded, anything to help me heal quickly. I watched as the blood seeped out of the acupuncture holes (it's like an ant bite, a strong one) and turn away. She said I hurt my ligament and would need much rest at home while wrapping my knee again with herbal plaster. At this point, I could bend my knee again and walk better than yesterday.

you have been warned! - look away -

On the 4th day, I visited the centre for my follow up check. You must be thinking why I am so adamant to visit so frequently in such a short time. I just want to be able to walk faster as I have much work ahead of me. So much commitment that I could not abandon. Due to the allergy reaction to the herbal plaster, my skin was red and itchy so that's not an option anymore. My medicine dosage was increase from 2 to 3 pills each for strength.

Herbal Plaster : To speed up healing from serious injuries, hairline fractures and broken bones. This plaster is made with 42 herbs steeped in "Tit Tar" alcohol.

I have never really believe in TCM and now my mind has opened up to accept traditional healing methods where the use of medicinal herbs and in the right hands, could help relieve pain and speed up healing compared to gulping down pain killers and resting at home bed ridden. Though TCM is not a quick solution or a miracle overnight healing treatment, it has definitely help me with my injury reducing the time, pain and speeding up my recovery. I was able to start walking with the aid of a walking stick after 5 days, better than bed bound with no movement. This is my personal sharing and I thought by blogging about this, it might help someone who needs this too.

to avoid all prohibited food during healing

I would recommend this place if you do not mind traveling all the way to Taman Gembira to see a Tit Tar / Chinese Physician for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). I have a month probably to go before I could walk without any help. I am still visiting this centre. Here's to a speedy recovery.

I also want to thank my good friend and big sister, Candy Lee for taking the time to sent me to this centre, back home and cooking home cooked food for me to eat during the first 2 days of visit. I love you so much, thank you.

    2. Aww..take care...and yes, I hope your knee recovers soon. I'm truly sad to hear that this happened at an event and that the organiser did not care to provide any assistance but it's good to hear that you had friends with you and that you found this TCM clinic.
I think it's really good of you to write about your experience here because it's true, many of us aven't tried TCM and this has opened my eyes. Besides, it really is a very personal and honest account of your consult.
Take care, Tammy! Godspeed in your recovery. You do so much for the Butterfly Bloggers despite your injured knee. Here's to say that your work is much appreciated by us all.

      1. At first I didn't think to share but my friends kept asking me for the contact number after hearing my testimonial. I think to benefit anyone who is googling for a Tit Tar / TCM / Injury to knee, they can benefit from knowing there is an alternative out there.

Thanks ShopGirl, it's just unfortunate that I fell down since I am not completely heal and now having to relive this again for the second episode.
