  • The Boathouse Meatology Media Launch by Chef Yenni Law

    2.21.2015

    the magic of photoshop

I think if you asked what my hobbies are, it would be spending money on food, shopping, travels and when I'm not spending money around TTDI, it would be playing around with Adobe Photoshop on my Macbook Air. I'm a self taught Adobe Photoshop girl, a penchant developed when I got my first computer and dive into the world of designs, particularly in web. When I am in the mood, which always happens after midnight, I'll be playing with images taken either by my Canon 550D or iPhone. Nowadays my Canon 550D is going wonkers so I use my iPhone as camera.

Yesterday night, I was editing the images from a cookbook media event by Chef Yenni Law of The Boathouse, situated at the famed nightspot strip along Lorong Rahim Kajai 14 in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. The cookbook is titled Meatology (RM39.90) under the MPH Masterclass Kitchens series.

Chef Yenni Law launches her cookbook "Meatology"

Now being a resident here has made me fallen in love with the community. When I received the invitation from MPH to join the media launch of this cookbook, my face lighted up at the thought of getting to know Boathouse closely. The invitation came with a homemade sambal in a glass jar, tied with a ribbon and menu highlighting the various dishes that's going to be served at the launch, picked from the cookbook itself.

True enough, I got to know Chef Yenni Law (40 years old) personally at this launch where she shared her tales of being a chef from helping her mother in the kitchen as a child, to going abroad in Europe and returning to Malaysia become a chef and co-owner of Boathouse. Now her life long dream of writing her own cookbook which wasn't an easy feat as she manages her business, has come true thanks to MPH after a year and a half of experimenting various meat and seafood recipes in her kitchen. In her cookbook Meatology, readers are introduced to 28 recipes from easy to do recipes till being shown various cuts of meat and how to trim tenderloins, fillet a salmon, French-trim lamb chops and cut a chicken.

Chef Yenni Law advises start with something relatively lightweight, like Tuna Niçoise and Seared Cod with Roasted Pepper Pesto and Caramelised Lemon Rings, then move on to the heavy stuff like Beef Wellington and Baked Barbecue Beef Short Ribs. As a bonus you can also learn how to make Boathouse's beef prosciutto for a salad with rocket and apple to surprise your guests.

my very own copy of the signed Meatology cookbook by Chef Yenni Law

Truly enjoyed the pleasant afternoon of dining in The Boathouse at the launched of Chef Yenni Law's cookbook, Meatology. I had a great time having my taste buds tantalised throughout the play of meats and sauces of every dish. My favourite has got to be the Braised Black mussels in Spicy Tomato Concasse which I had heaps of helpings. It's also the easiest recipe in the Meatology cookbook to prepare said Chef Yenni Law. The soft succulent juicy mussels were deliciously bathed in the spicy tomato  sauce. I couldn't get enough off it and will try to get my hands to make one myself soon.

If you're a fan of The Boathouse and or meats, then look out for the Meatology cookbook by Chef Yenni Law. It's available at The Boathouse and MPH outlets at RM39.90 containing 28 recipes of meats and seafood with various cooking styles. Most recipes are mains for a single serving. Thank you MPH and The Boathouse for inviting me over.
