  • Scholl Velvet Smooth Express Pedi Foot File Review

    11.24.2015

    meet my pink idol

I can't rave how awesome this Scholl's Velvet Smooth Express Pedi Electronic Foot File for my pedicure woes as I tried this morning to unbox and do a video review on how to use this cool gadget by Scholl. Of course the main thing that attracted me to this is the pink hand held device which almost looks like Clarisonic's facial cleansing device only this is for your feet. This device will file away hard skin under your feet to give you velvety smooth and beautiful feet effortlessly and instantly. I'm going to put this to the test to see for myself.

the limited edition pink Velvet Smooth Express Pedi device

The Scholl Velvet Smooth Express Pedi Electronic Foot File comes normally in blue but because it was Breast Cancer Awareness month, you can get it in the limited edition pink woohoo! Retails for RM135.20!

this is how it looks like

They say beauty begins at your feet, which is quite true. It's also one of the most neglected areas in on our body. With our busy schedule, running around working, shopping and hanging out we often don't have time to go to the nail salon to have our regular pedicure treatment to maintain smooth and beautiful looking feet. I for one would go have my pedicures twice a month and I would always top up for foot filling (to get rid of my hard skin). The top up ranges from RM15 - RM30 depending on salons where a foot file device (electronic or non-electronic) would be used. It files and buffs away the hard skin and improves the skin texture on my feet. I always wonder, how I can achieve the same effect at home without needing to pay for this extra treatment.

I did wonder if I could purchase the devices myself to use at home. I didn't really find any and would imagine they're quite expensive to buy. I resorted to the normal flat sand paper type foot filer but after a while got bored and lazy filling my feet. If it was electronic that would be easier and more convenient.

Then came Scholl's Velvet Smooth Express Pedi Electronic Foot File which I feel the price is not too bad for an electronic beauty gadget from a reputable company. It beats topping up at nail salons!.

    front - back

    can't wait to try it

comes ready with 4 x AA batteries

just twist the middle silver part to turn on

batteries are inserted from the bottom

click the side, to release the coarse roller head

just twist the middle silver part to turn on

the roller head can be wash & replace

gosh look at all my dead skin cells!!!

    seriously I am impressed!!!

from hard skin to smooth skin in minutes

wash it under running water & leave to dry
(roller head should be detached from the gadget and washed separately.
Gadget can only be wiped with a damp cloth)

I was seriously wow-ed by this device upon the first use. It's easy, fast and gives the same effect I get from paying at the nail salons to smoothen and buff away my hard skin under the foot. I highly recommend to throw the normal foot filers (which isn't cheap I tell you, I bought a few that costs from RM30 - 45). I rather swap them for Scholl's electronic foot filer. November Empties

    11.15.2015

now I have something to say about them

I thought I start an empties review instead of a the usual hello this is what review. You know just for fun. Getting bored of reviewing products and showing pictures of unboxing. Now maybe I show pictures of empties or gruesome gross finished products like Picasso?. Well this picture here isn't exactly scary or yucky. Kinda pretty actually, didn't know my bathroom sink so pretty haha. This morning before I recycle my plastic beauty product waste, I took a picture with my phone first. The sink is surrounded by current products that's being used. The amount of products I have is crazy and I get stressed just thinking how to review about them. What has blogging come to?! argh... it's suppose to be a fun past time. Now it feels like work with deadlines. I want fun back.

So back to my sink, I have finished a lot products off since I moved to my own studio unit in Damansara Perdana. It only occurred to me to start blogging about empties this morning. Phew I still have some to show at least. Let's go from 1 - 8 and I'll summarize what I think about them.

    1. Laneige Sleeping Mask EX RM110
Finally I finished the last Laneige Sleeping Mask (in old packaging) before I start using the new ones I bought. Yeap this is my holy grail of all sleeping mask. There hasn't been one that would top Laneige's Sleeping Mask! Totally love this since 2008.

    5/5 stars

    2. Fancl Cleansing Oil RM120-150
If you ever heard of Shu Uemura's cleansing oil being bad bcoz it clogged pores and all, then you might prefer Fancl cleansing oil which contains no preservatives, free from mineral oil and bla bla. The free from mineral oil is the no.1 reason why a lot girls prefer this cleansing oil over Shu Uemura's. Fancl is not sold in Malaysia, I got mine from Hong Kong. Anyway as A Shu Uemura cleansing oil user, my advise is to just double cleanse if you're worried about pores being clogged.

    4/5 stars

    3. Bath & Body Works Foaming Sugar Scrub in Lush Pink (DragonFruit) RM80
I love the fragrance crazy scrubs from Bath & Body Works but my family is anti-fragrance (lucky I'm staying alone). This one is so buttery sugary delicious on your body. However for the price of RM80 for a pop, I'm a bit hesitant to repurchase unless there's a big sale.

    3/5 star

    4. Fancl Cleansing Oil (again)
Well this limited edition packaging in pink has a pretty mermaid girl on the cover. I bought this from Japan (friend's help). You don't know the amount of make up remover products I have. Not necessary for removing make up but also to remove sunscreens, sunblocks and sun protection products (pore clogging materials).

    4/5 stars

    5. Sparkling Spa Shower (old packaging) RM129
This is a hair tonic (spray form) from Daisuke Salon. The name itself attracted me lol. The product claims to improve scalp conditions and hair fall with use after washing your hair. Just press the product head on your scalp and it'll let out "gas" which in my opinion is a bit spicy to the eyes and nostrils. The second version was much better (I'm currently using). Only lasts for a month with regular use. I didn't see my scalp improving from using this, maybe I'm using it wrong? Let's see what the second bottle do *giving chance*.

    2/5 stars

    6. Black Kill Pore Cleaner RM57 (discounted)
My current favourite blackhead remover bought from Althea Korea. It's a cool hand held nose cleaner product. To explain, you hold it and there's a button on the side. Push the button, the greyish liquid is dispense out on the silicone brush head (like a tiny hair brush) meant to be used on blackhead area (nose / face). It foams up when you brush it on your blackhead infested skin. In one minute,  you'll see your blackheads gone! Well not gone, technically the softer newer blackheads (if you regularly clean it) will be easily removed when you massage (the tiny brush) with the grey foamy liquid which softens and somehow dislodges the blackhead, dirts and sebum from the skin. This is one product that I'm adding to my holy grail because pore packs and squeezing blackheads isn't good for your skin. The constant peeling on your nose will cause long term roughness with your skin being peel over and over again. Squeezing blackheads with fingers or blackhead removing tool, will cause potential scarring and harm to your fragile skin. Not to mention the pores are all open wide and shocked by the sudden forced removal. The Black Kill Pore Cleaner on the other hand is a much gentler way to remove blackheads. But of course, stubborn or blackheads that's been around for a long time, will need some encouragement of the pore pack or gentle push after using this :)

    5/5 stars

    7. Sparkling Scalp DR RM99  (for dandruff/oily scalp)
This Sparkling Scalp DR is the sister to Sparkling Spa Shower from Daisuke Salon. It didn't improve my scalp or hair fall conditions. I can't blame the product because it's a number of issues that's causing my dandruff and scalp to go crazy last month. Also the product is more suitable for oily scalp and mine is dry. I still want to believe the benefits of the Japanese Onsen Hair Spa.

    2/5 stars

    8. Too Cool For School Bubble Pack RM82++
Bought this from Too Cool For School Curve, similar to Taiwan's Beauty Talk Oxy Mask which caught Malaysia in the oxy mask beauty storm years back. Nothing to shout about, basically quite cool to see bubbles foaming after you apply the clear liquid on face. The bubbles help improved blood circulation on your face, delivering "oxygen". Which I think scientists will say bull horse shit. I purchase this because I was curious. Cheaper than Beauty Talk's Oxy Mask that's for sure and a lot brands are coming up with the same product.

    2/5 stars
My Star Rating Drama Explanation: (saja)

    2 - SO-SO
    3 - I am on the fence
4 - There's love, we may date again
    5 - Will die if don't buy

Why I Will Never Use Batiste Dry Shampoo Again

    11.08.2015

annoying damage hair that I can't cut off
    (thanks to using dry shampoo)

I have a dark secret to share. On my right side of the hair... I have a bunch of damage hair that's like fried noodles. Each time I wash and blow my hair, they become badly tangle... and it takes so much work to smooth and hide them away. Thankfully it was the inner parts of mid length hair. I'm trying to grow them out so I can chop them off and be rid of this maggie mee hair.

How did this happen? I'm not sure if any of you encounter the same before with using a Batiste dry shampoo. When they first launch in Malaysia, I went crazy over it. It was convenient, fuss free way to freshen up your hair when you're too lazy to wash. However, dry shampoos are actually not good for your hair and scalp. It causes more product built up and clogged your hair follicles leading to other scalp and hair problems, causing long term damage for a short term happiness.

    Advantages of using dry shampoo:
    1. Instant fresh hair without washing
    2. Convenient when you're busy
    Disadvantages of using dry shampoo:
    1. Clogged your hair follicles
    2. Worsen dandruff
    3. Irritate scalp
    4. Scalp pimples
Read: The Disgusting Truth About Dry Shampoo

Anyway I bought the normal Batiste dry shampoo, then repurchase again the XXL type and also one in brown finishing. The instructions says to shake and spray 30cm away from your hair roots. One day I sprayed less than 30cm away onto the mid lengths of my hair and suddenly... my hair was fried cold. It was like using a fire extinguisher, cold gas spray and naturally things would just die or freeze and break into pieces. For my case, I think either I didn't shake it properly or it was too close to my hair, the spray freeze damage part of my hair causing it to be really frizzy / like a zig zag pattern on my straight hair.

Since then I swear off using Batiste dry shampoo, apart from it causing my dandruff to become worst due to the it's nature to freshen your hair by having chemicals absorb your sebums and oils (which stays on your scalp until you finally wash it out properly with a clarifying shampoo).

I hope :O my experience would prevent another person's hair from being freeze fried dead. Not sure if I'm one of a kind.

Hair Haul: Selsun Yellow, Tsubaki Head Spa & Nioxin

my latest hair haul damage RM300++

I asked around my blogger friends to recommend me a good dandruff shampoo. My scalp is dry and sensitive, with stress and being sick the past month my dandruff has become insane leading to hair fall (bcoz I like scratching, picking & pulling my hairs). Nothing serious really, all I need is to cleanse, balance and treat my scalp problems. I didn't become a beauty blogger for no reason =_= all the product reviews, workshops and event I attend did educate me haha.

    THROWING AWAY MY SHAMPOOS

Surprisingly Selsun yellow was on the top mentions when I posted my question on a beauty blogger group. I never heard of Selsun yellow until now. Apparently yellow is the scalp treatment, only to be used once a week. The Selsun blue is the shampoo which you can use daily. The thing about Selsun products is it's drying. Well actually most dandruff or medicated shampoos are drying. No helping it.

update: just used Selsun yellow. It's watery liquid, shocked when I first pour it out. 2nd shock was that the liquid when I apply and massage on my hair was really foamy. It doesn't have a strong medicated scent like Selsun blue.

I bought Selsun yellow from Watson's Paradigm Mall (1st floor, middle) RM46.60 for 200ml wow expensive. Then I bought Tsubaki Head Spa 550ml  RM23.80 (recommended by my friends as well) because I needed a simple, gentle clarifying shampoo with clear liquid to balance and cleanse my scalp from all the product build ups (serums, oils, bla bla). Those with cream liquid are too moisturising for my scalp which does not help with my scalp problem. I'm avoiding these shampoos now and salon professionals has been repeatedly advising me to stay away from Pantene, Dove, etc citing they're not good for the scalp.

update: just used this and I am in love with this shampoo! Smells so relaxing and spa-ish.

While I was walking around, I saw a Shins poster for NIOXIN at a great deal. I used Nioxin once, loved it because it was a scalp friendly shampoo that's refreshing and cooling. Helped with my sensitive scalp problem and hair thinning issues but it was really expensive so I never repurchase.

    THE ANTI-DANDRUFF PLAN?
    CLEANSE, BALANCE & TREAT

However today I saw the 1L shampoo & conditioner at a great deal of only RM87 (shampoo) and RM82.90 (conditioner). Normal price is RM200++ for 1L. Nioxin is the #1 selling salon brand for thicker, fuller hair. It's for thinning hair problems. I don't want to go to deep into explaining what causes hair thinning problems but in short, dandruff is one of the causes for hair thinning (hair fall). Your scalp is producing sebum & cell turnover rate is going at the speed of light. Your hair follicles are clogged, scalp gets irritated (itchy, inflame, red) you start picking, scratching, etc. They can't breath, hair gets weak, it falls or gets pull when you scratch your scalp.

update: just used the scalp revitalising conditioner, sooooo cooling !!! love love love. My hair is bleached & coloured so dry is an issue after I use treatment shampoos. The conditioner made it soft and bearable. I'm going to use this conditioner for the duration of my anti-dandruff plan.

Nioxin comes in as a scalp cleanser to help remove follicle-clogging sebum, fatty acids and enviromental residues from the scalp and hair. The Nioxin 3-Step System starts with cleanse (shampoo), optimise (scalp revitaliser conditioner which you can use on hair and scalp) and treat (scalp treatment). It's been proven to work with many testimonials from it's users. You can read more about Nioxin here.

Volumizing, cosmetic leave-on treatment for noticeably thinning hair – contains SPF 15 sunscreen to protect scalp skin, and antioxidants and botanicals to help provide a refreshed scalp environment.

    CLEANSER
Helps to remove follicle-clogging sebum, fatty acids and environmental residues from the scalp skin and hair. Cleanses to provide thicker-looking hair.

    SCALP REVITALISER
A lightweight conditioner that helps provide hair resilience and control moisture balance.

    SCALP TREATMENT
Contains antioxidants and botanicals that help to provide a refreshed scalp environment.
It's really popular with proven results and testimonials from its users.

I'm pretty much happy with my hair haul from yesterday. I hope I'll be able to calm down my scalp, nurse it to health and control my dandruff outbreak. The amount of hair on my floor is crazy. Oh you might be thinking why I needed to buy two types of shampoo. Well I like to alternate my shampoos depending on my scalp sebum mood. If it's a particularly normal day, I'd used the Tsubaki Head Spa and if I have been using a lot of oils and my sebum has built up due to sweat, hot weather, etc, I'll go for Nioxin.

OH and very important is with dandruff issues, must not air dry / natural dry your hair! Use a hair-dryer / blower to avoid your scalp being all wet and nice for your dandruff friends to become happy and active. I learnt this from hair salon experts haha.
If you want to grab that Shins deal, I'm not sure if it's the same deal all at Shins store but the Shins I went to is on Concourse Floor, Paradigm Mall near Etude House (which is having Buy 1 Free 1 Sales now).
