  • Kiehl's Vitality Getaway & Review

    3.11.2017

Mr.Bones says hello in Cameron Highlands!

A few weeks ago, I was lucky to be exclusively invited to go on a road trip to Cameron Highlands for 2D1N on a vitality getaway by Kiehl's, in conjunction with the launch of their new #Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream. I had never visited before so when I was offered the opportunity I was delighted to accept it as all expenses trips are rare for me!

As I boarded the coach surrounded by social media influencers to leave KL @ 9.30am I was made to feel welcome by Kiehl's PR's and was given a drink and snacks, which was only the start of the generous hospitality that I was to receive throughout the whole trip. We finally reached Cameron highlands @ around 1.30pm after a long bus journey in time for lunch @ the traditional English style restaurant Ye Olde Smokehouse. It definitely doesn't feel like you're still in Malaysia around here with its charming retro English village style interior design and pretty, well-maintained garden surroundings. Lunch served was the cream of asparagus soup for entrĂ©e, roast chicken, potatoes and mixed veg for main and custard filled apple crumble for dessert.

    Arriving @ Ye Olde Smokehouse

goodies waiting for us to discover!

making my very own vitality blend (tea)

roast chicken with highlands vegetables! yummy

I ate the whole thing, including the skin!
(it's the most nutritious part of the apple)

A spectacular and intimate setting to introduce and launch Kiehl's Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream and also the Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil. To summarised, I'll be sharing the reviews below here on the two products launched with my impressions.

Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream RM254/50ml

The Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream is 99.6% naturally derived and helps skin renew itself and improves resilience for a smoother texture and a more youthful radiance.  The 2 main star ingredients in this product are the New Zealand Manuka Honey & Korean Red Ginseng Root.  A mix from the best of both worlds; sourced from Western and the Eastern medicine for healthy skin benefits.

    New Zealand Manuka Honey
A high-quality honey formulated to help improve skin's resilience and is known in Western medicine to have the highest polyphenol level of all honey. It helps fortify the skin barrier, increasing the skin's ability to recover. It is also rich with anti-inflammatory properties, has the ability to heal wounds and due to it's higher sugar content and 4 times more minerals than any other honey, it can help to repair skin damage and preserve skin barrier hydration levels.

No Parabens No Mineral Oil No Synthetic Colour or Fragrance

    Korean Red Ginseng Root
A highly prized and recommended ingredient in Eastern medicine, with studies proving that it can help to increase cell turnover & hydration levels, improve texture, vitality and create a healthy glowing complexion. Use it after cleansing and toning, apply to clean facial skin morning and night, avoiding the immediate eye area.

manuka honey & Korean Red Ginseng Root cream?

First impressions, the product has a rich cream-gel texture which looks like honey butter to me. I could pick up a citrusy, manuka honey scent with a hint of spice. Surprisingly, there's no overbearing scent of the Korean Red Ginseng Root which is apparent in Korean Beauty products.

The instructions say to use this after cleansing and toning, in the morning and night avoiding the eye area. A pea size amount is needed, melt the formula between fingers before applying evenly onto the face. Massage into skin, upwards, circular motion. Apply remaining cream in the neck.

Since this is a cream, I have a hunch this would be really good for my night time beauty sleep. Upon application, it's easily blendable and melts right into the skin when you massage it. Right away, you could feel there's a smooth albeit a slight waxy barrier on your skin. The barrier locks in the hydration and restorative ingredients for the renewal you need.

I could see the fine lines plumped up, making it less noticeable and actually more youthful looking on the first try. I also couldn't help feeling how smooth my skin is. At first, it was a bit sticky due to the product being rich but that stickiness and waxiness passed and I was left with a light smooth plumping sensation. Being in the air cond room while using this, it gave my skin a cooling cover sensation.

I reckon would be really good for dry/mature skin type.

    Ingredients:
Aqua/Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Dicaprylyl, Ether, Undercane, Glyceryl Stearate, Lauroyl Lysine, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Tridecane, Cetearyl Alcohol, Chenopodium Quinoa Seed Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter/Shea Butter, Mel Extract/Honey Extract, Mica, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Cera Alba/Beeswax, Tocopherol, Sclerotium Gum, Xanthan Gum, Cedrus Atlantica Bark Oil, Salicylic Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment, Filtrate, Glycerin Soja Oil/Soybean Oil Cananga, Odorata Flower Oil, Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract, Adenosine, Bulnesia Sarmientoi Wood Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Citric Acid, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Limonene, Benzyl Benzoate, Farnesol, Linalool, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil/Sunflower Seed oil.

Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil RM150/175ml

This is a fan favorite of Kiehl's ever since they launch the Midnight Recovery Oil Concentrate. It's packed with all the good oils and squalene to make you skin super nice after a good night's rest (hence the name midnight recovery as it replenishes and restores your skin overnight). I am thrilled to see that there's a cleansing oil under this range now. It makes perfect sense to have it to remove makeup and still enjoy all the goodness from Midnight Recovery oils used. They also have an eye cream under this line.

    Soap-Free, Sulfate-Free & Mineral Oil Free

The Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil is a lightweight essential oil-cleanser that emulsifies with water to a cleansing milk, gently, yet effectively dissolving even the hardest to remove makeup and impurities without over-drying, leaving skin clean and replenished. Enriched with an aromatic blend of pure botanical oils - Squalane for skin, a planted derived lipid with a natural affinity for the skin, Evening Primrose Oil, rich in Omega-6 Fatty Acids and Lavender Essential Oils, this all-in-one non-comedogenic cleansing formula leaves skin balanced, soothed and prepared for optimal night-time replenishment.

    How To Use?

Like all cleansing oils, they definitely can remove makeup but what makes this one so special? All that goodness that I just mentioned above mainly - evening primrose oil, lavender essential oil, and squalene which is not the squalene from killing sharks but the squalene from the olive fruit. I'm happy Kiehl's didn't harm any sharks here to make this. Good news, sharks is no longer an endangered species thanks to our societal efforts to reduce shark killing for their fins and oils.

    Evening Primrose Oil
A botanical oil obtained through cold press extraction with a high content of Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids. In the formula, it helps to maintain skin barrier and leave skin feeling replenished and smoother.

    Lavender Essential Oil
Sourced from Bulgaria and obtained by distillation of the flower to preserve its activity and natural aroma. In the formula, this aromatic essential oil helps to soothe skin and prepare it for nighttime replenishment.

    Squalene
A botanical lipid derived from the Olive Fruit that is similar in molecular structure to natural skin lipids. In the formula, it helps to soften and hydrate skin while dissolving hard to remove makeup.

First impressions? The smell is incredible! If you're a lover of scents and aromatherapy then you're going to love this. The lavender oil used here releases a calming scent once you pump the product into your hands. Just cleanse your face in circular motion to remove makeup or clean your face. You can already how luxurious this oil makes your skin feels. When ready, wash with water and you'll see the oil emulsifying leaving your skin fresh and hydrated. You can double cleanse (if you're removing makeup) and/or use moisturizer next in your skincare regime.

Later in the afternoon after we left Ye Olde Smokehouse, we visited the Lavender farm where we all tried the popular and yummy house made natural lavender ice cream. Finally, in the evening time, we arrived at our accommodation for the night the 5* Cameron Highland Resort. As I went for a lie down on my bed after I checked into my room, I noticed that Kiehl's had placed a travel toiletry bag on my pillow along with a personalized welcome letter for me - what a touching and thoughtful gift! But that wasn't the only surprise in store they had also placed a bottle of the Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil in the bathroom. After showering and freshening up, I walked over to the semi-alfresco restaurant Gonbei for famous Cameron Highland steamboat buffet dinner. Delicious fresh vegetables and succulent meats and seafood.

hello hello my comfy bed for the night

    Day 2 - Kiehl's Pure Vitality Trip

good morning everyone,  rise & shine *yawn*

The next morning I woke up pretty early for breakfast enjoying smoked salmon omelet with assorted bread and fruits from a window overlooking the scenic views of the resort. After checking out, I boarded the coach along with the crew to visit the BOH tea plantation. Wow, spectacular scenic views and so much tea for as far as the eye can see! Snapped some breathtaking pictures and also got to go on a short tour and get a first-hand look at how Malaysian teas are made using traditional processing methods at the Tea Factory.

time for a tea break, get it? haha

what a sight! This is so beautiful

    I could sing here hahahhaha

(Aina showing off her vitality pose)

Soon it was time to board the coach again and head back to KL via a stop @ the Wiel hotel in Ipoh for buffet lunch. As everyone departed the coach @ KL, we were each given a box of fresh strawberries from Cameron Highlands by the PR's, which was the icing on the cake to a most enjoyable and memorable trip. I would just really like to say thank you very much to Kiehl's for inviting me. Your generosity and hospitality went above and beyond it was very much appreciated.
