  • 10 Best Home Decorating Ideas

    9.08.2017

goodbye clean eating, hello clean living

I have been forever thinking about doing a room tour post after watching many Vloggers share about theirs on Youtube. It's really interesting to watch them share about how they decorate their home and rooms to achieve a certain look using minimal to no frills, decorating pieces they buy from thrift stores to online sites. They painstakingly match everything from all whites, all blacks, to earthy colour combinations. From candles to plants, to vases, carpets, trinket plates!

I also notice that Scandinavian home designs are very popular now, even I am loving the look! Chic minimalist home decor, with live-and breath stylish pieces that bring your home to a whole new level. It would also make everything Instagrammable! Because of this, I have been dreaming of doing my very own home makeover too for my humble studio apartment. It's where I rest and relax, my haven so I want to make it as nice as possible.

I have been checking out some stores and online sites every day before I start. Also home decoration sites, Instagram hashtags. I visited property showrooms to just get a feel of my ideal dream home. From here, I noted down what I can do, and what I can't do (budget wise) and made a top 10 home decorating list. Kinda like a bucket list but for the home.

    The Scandinavian Home: Minimalist Chic

    1. Curtains
Blackout curtains in brown, grey or white. I will also have to get another sheer layer of curtains. I measured my sliding door at the balcony, which is the only place sun light comes into a 250 (h) 300 (w) measurement that I have to get. Current curtains are both in blue! (not my favourite colours).

    2. Wall Decorations
This will be above my bed. Currently, there are 3 ugly paintings there in a pink and blue landscape which to me makes a horrible combination. My studio apartment is colour scheme's white, brown and grey.

    3. Flowers/ Plants
Either real looking, flowers or plants that need minimal sunlight. I see tropical palm leaves are very popular now as home decorating pieces. Very Scandinavian.

    4. Candles
I have many candles but I'd love to get more so I can change the ambience according to my mood. They serve as beautiful decor, as well as for aromatherapy.

    5. Diffuser
I already have a normal diffuser which I brought to the office to use. I am looking for a more aesthetic looking diffuser for a spa-like ambience.

    6. Sofa throws
You know blankets for your sofa haha! They do add a touch of cosiness and make your living area Instagrammable.

    7. Decorative Pillows
This is really trendy now to put decorative pillows on your sofa just like the sofa throws, it'll change your living room's mood!

    8. Doormats
One welcome mat at the door, one in the kitchen and one at the bathroom door. It keeps all the dirt away and your floors dry from water (after shower/kitchen splashes).

    9.  Trinket plates
It'll be the first thing you use when you come home - putting your house keys on it and whatever daily in-out items. Sometimes I put my coins there and just clear them up by the end of the month.

    10. iMac 27"
Ok, maybe the last one is a bit too much but don't you agree that they just look aesthetically appealing in any home? Not only are they functional, they're major deco item for any bloggers to have! (Instragrammable lol).

    clean, organise, breathable living

This is my visual inspiration, to get mentally prepared for. Green potted plants, white furniture, earthy raw or organic elements (browns, wood, cotton). I feel it's not too little, not too much, and inspiring. A balance to life. Though I am not sure if I can change everything so soon. Christmas is coming, so I hope I'll have my room tour soon for a Christmas countdown.

P.S: You know what to get me for Christmas lol.
