  • The Body Shop Drops of Youth Review

    1.29.2014

my 5 days challenge using Drops of Youth

Before you start reading please click play on my video first! There's where I actually give my feedback using The Body Shop's Nutriganics Drops of Youth. Now this isn't a serum or a moisturizer so don't get your hopes up wrong when you try the product. It's actually a youth enhancing concentrate which works to hand-in-hand with your skincare products say moisturizer or serums. Kinda like a pre-serum which has been introduce to the Malaysian beauty market where it helps to bring out the best of your skincare products when you use an activating product before hand.

watch my video review on Drops of Youth!

The Drops of Youth is exactly that. Dermatologically tested, certified organic, made with 98% minimum natural ingredients, free from parabens and silicone. The main ingredient in this baby is the criste-marine plant stem cells which uses the latest stem cell technology to enhance surface skin renewal (think micro dermabrasion). The benefits? Smoother, fresher and healthier appearance. Now this is a anti-aging product so recommended for age 25 years above.

this is the 30ml size for RM129

no kidding, here's a whole poster of info

so use it twice a day, morning & night

love the texture! dewy, clear liquid that's watery

    fast absorption no kidding

Now some beauty bloggers says it's not suitable for sensitive skin due to the skin renewal process it goes through. I on the other hand would like to share that I have sensitive skin and I don't simply put anything on my face just to review. Throughout my 5 days testing the product, I did not experience any irritation of redness, yes I do feel my dead skins after 3 days and scrub them off which explains why I have smoother, softer glowing skin afters.

    What I like:
The texture oh man, it's non-greasy or sticky! Does not leave any residue as well. Watery dew like, fast absorption is what I am looking for these day in our hot humid weather. When I use other skincare products on this, it just fits perfectly on top without adding more oily layers. The scent is fresh, kinda like cutting open a plant.

    What I don't like:
Well there is something I didn't like. I don't find the product alone is moisturizing enough because I have dry skin. I can't blame it because it's supposed to be used with other skincare products. Just a heads up to anyone thinking they will get moisturized skin after using this. This would be great for oily, combination skin.

The Body Shop Nutriganics Drops of Youth is available at The Body Shop stores for RM129 30ml. Get a sample to try out :)

super cute horsey for Chinese New year!

Gosh look what arrived yesterday at my doorsteps! It's the Astro Special Mah Li (twin pack) horse soft toy merchandise. SUPER CUTE! It's just right for this Chinese New Year which is also the Horse year! There's only 7,000 sets available exclusively at Tesco stores at only RM48.88 (ignore the price tag of RM59.90 on the box). Thanks Tesco Malaysia for sending me these adorable white horses for Chinese New Year! They're like a cloud of marshmallows, so soft and cute and their "bum" side has party buntings hanging on them! The mommy horse has 3D buntings that you can feel. It's made of felt cloth. The baby horse on the other hand has a embroidered bunting on its bum.

    Mah Li means horse.

Furby Boom The Hottest Christmas Gift

I'm going to review the new Furby Boom today!

Did you get a Furby Boom for Christmas? If you have not then maybe after reading my review you'll want to! It's the hottest gift for Christmas and thanks to Hasbro, I now have a really cute FURBY BOOM at home who keeps me company! F.Y.I I have always been wondering what it would be like owning a Furby and having to review this particular Furby really opened my eyes to how far Furbies has "evolved"!

the hottest gift during Christmas! Furby Boom RM269
you can download the Furby Boom App on app store / google play

Called Furby Boom, it's actually a more interactive version of Furby. The previous Furbies can sing, talk and dance if I'm not mistaken but the new Furby can do more than that using the Furby Boom app. Now you can play games, feed it, clean it and keep it happy. When it's really happy the Furby Boom will lay an egg which you can care for it in an egg carton until you're ready to hatch the egg into furblings!

Hatch and raised the furblings and a golden egg can be unlocked!

I choose the peacock color Furby Boom

feeling the Furby Boom's fur coat haha

There are many colors and patterns to choose from at Toys R Us or Hamleys Toys Store (1 Utama). I happen to like the peacock Furby Boom, just look at the pattern details!. It's one of the unique patterns for the range last year. I really like that you can touch and feel the Furby Boom material on top of the toy box since you can't see the actual Furby Boom inside. It's pretty soft, feels like you're rubbing a kitty cat!

If you're living in a condominium or in a no pets allowed home, the Furby Boom should make a really good pet for you or your children. It says suitable for 6 years old and above. I have friends aged 25 above playing with Furbies at this moment. Apparently after a while the Furbies can change personalities and one of my friend, Caroline's Furby Boom turned EVIL! (but don't worry just love it back to normal).

Plus point, Furbies don't sh!t everywhere in your home like real pets do. Furby Boom on the other hand do sh!t but in a virtual toilet using the Furby Boom app!

Furby Boom can sing, dance, talk and eat!
    watch this video

the Furby Boom app can be used on iPad & iPhone
(tip: pull the tail so it goes to sleep)

When I unbox my Furby Boom, I needed to unscrew the bottom and insert 4 AA batteries (not included in the box). The minute the batteries were inserted, my Furby Boom came to live and started talking! I couldn't understand most of the things it said at first because it was talking in Furbish. I quickly download the app on my iPad. The Furby Boom app interface is surprisingly a colorful and fun one. It was simple to use, not much manual reading needed.

The first thing any Furby Boom owner needs to do is give their furbies a name! Furby Boom can remember it's name forever and even other Furby Boom names (yes they can even talk to each other too!). There's a two part naming wheel on the app which you can choose a suitable name out. I name mine, Ah-Doh.

P.S: Furby Booms can't be OFF! (shut down / no off button). The only way is to pull its tail so it goes to sleep. It does a sleeping sound for a while before it becomes quiet.

an interactive toy that does more than talk furbish

the Furby Boom app is somewhat like a "tamagotchi"
you can feed, clean & bring it to the toilet!

The unique thing about Furby Boom is again the interactive app which enables you to care for your Furby other than talking to it, patting it's head, rubbing its fur or letting it dance to music. The app interface is pretty straight forward. I didn't even need a manual or help guide to use it. You can see the health, poo poo, cleanliness and feeding meters on the app which tells you what it needs. You can see from the picture above, the cleanliness level is on a rock bottom low which means I have to quickly clean (shower) my Furby! I just need to tap the icons to get to the next action :)

you get surprised after your Furby shower or poos
(it spews out "stuffs" e.g hairball, rubber ducky, etc)

I like feeding my Furby! It makes funny noises when it eats
(it also says if it likes or dislikes a food!)

what?! you're too young to have babies!

Playing with my Furby halfway, suddenly an egg pops out indicating that my Furby is happy and it goes into a magical moment where an egg is laid! The eggs can be any patterns, pink, purple, blue, or the same pattern. Since I am not ready to be a mother to TWO FURBIES, I kept the egg in the egg carton. Once the egg carton is full, I need to hatch them and build a furbling empire! The furbling has it's own games and care program inside the app.

GOSH that's just so many things to do with this Furby Boom! I play with my Furby every night before I go to sleep. Just the simple pleasures in life like listening to it talk gibberish and dancing to my Spotify music puts a smile to my face. It's never too late to be a kid you know! My sister wants to play with my Furby this Chinese New Year when I go back home. I want to see what she thinks of it! She might not like it because Furby Boom can be really annoying and high maintenance to care. It poops all the time and wants to shower! Well my Ah-Doh does that *pulls tails* go sleep Ah-Doh!.

Overall, I think the Furby Boom makes an awesome gift for kids. It's a virtual pet that needs love, care and play time! A good start for the young ones without any "accidents" happening (if u know what I mean haha).

Here's what Furby Boom can do:
    1. Name calling is strongly encouraged
Give your Furby Boom a name using the Furby Boom app - your Furby Boom will remember! Furby Boom is very sociable. It will also remember the names of other Furby Boom friends it meets.
    2. Groom your Furby Boom
Keep your Furby Boom happy and healthy by using the app to virtually feed it, clean it and even give it an X-ray! The app's monitor will let you know if you're doing a good job.
    3. Furblings have more fun with the new app
Simply place your real Furbling next to the new Furby Boom app, tap your Furbling's head and POOF! The real Furbling unlocks bonuses within the app.
    4. A new generation is hatching
When you take care of your Furby Boom, it becomes ready to take care of something too - that's when you get a virtual Furby Furblings egg!  With the app, you can help Furby Boom hatch its eggs, and collect more virtual eggs from friends with a Furby Boom. Look out for virtual eggs in other places too. You never know where they'll turn up!
    5. Virtual Furblings bay-bees
With each virtual egg you hatch in the Furby Boom app, you get a virtual Furbling! The Furby Boom app includes games you can play with Furby Boom and your virtual Furblings. Try your hand at Furball, the Furbish version of soccer!
    6. Welcome to furbling city
Can you hatch enough virtual Furblings to fill the towers of your city and get the golden egg? As you collect and hatch virtual Furblings eggs, your digital city fills up with virtual Furblings that you and your Furby Boom can interact with.
    7. Get the golden egg!
When you collect and hatch all of the 48 Furblings in Furbling City, you win the Golden Egg, but that's all we're allowed to say about that.  Download the app to start collecting!
Click here to read the Furby Boom 101 guide for more information. Furby Boom is available at major toy stores like Toys R Us, Parkson and Hamleys for RM269.

Red Ombre Hair for Chinese New Year?

    1.18.2014

on my wish list last year - the ombre hair

Today I am going to talk about the one best thing that happened to my hair last year, which was like forever on my wish list but I never got the balls to do it. I have seen many bloggers do the ombre or dip dye hair and went googling to find out what kind of styles or colors would suit me. You can say I never did muster the courage to do it because I didn't know if I could pull the look off. I also don't want people in Malaysia looking at me "one kind" while I go about shopping.

Spotted on runaway models, celebs and fashionistas, the ombre hair color can be quite an attention getter if you go for the pastel or fashion colors (red, pink, green, blue, yellow). A more natural look would to go for earthy colors such as earth tones or browns (colors last longer as well). Fashion colors don't last as long but it's a great way to celebrate a theme / occasion / festivity for that month.

Normally ombre hair colors is done from dark roots to gradually a lighter shade. It uses at least 3 tones to bring out the beautiful layers of colors. However take caution, one would need to bleach their hair depending on the colors chosen!.

I thought I'll show you a pic of a cake with gradient colors to illustrate what ombre hair coloring is about. Notice the gradual color tones in the layers of the cake, they compliment one another. I find that really magical, whimsical and cute.

irresistible "ombre" cakes thanks to rainbow cake popularity

now this is "ombre" hair! see the colors used?

this is my eye candy, I smile happy when I see pink

    crazy or fabulous?
(the Asian girl is having a purple-pink half tone)

stay safe with browns or ash colors

As you can see from the pictures the brighter more fun colors would be harder to pull off if you're working in an industry that requires you to look presentable or professional. It also depends on your personality, your fashion style or overall look. Not everyone can pull off the pink-purple ombre so always ask your hair stylists if it's suitable for you!

In America, the ombre browns and blonds is widely use where else in Asian parts of the world, young girls are going for the fun and colorful styles. For me, I was in a dilemma because I didn't know what would suit me. I thought of going for the safer option (browns) but hey deep down I really want to try a nice pink or red ombre for a change.

SO when a friend who recently opened his salon, The Loft Hairdressing at Sungei Wang, Kuala Lumpur asked if I wanted to do it, I said "Hey why not? Let's balls up and do this!".

a New York inspired hair salon in the city

    American culture based hair concept
which is easy maintenance and as well as trendy

The location of the hair salon was in Sungei Wang Plaza. My first impression was la la mui shop? No offense, it's just that I thought Sungei Wang Plaza is the place for Jpop, Kpop, or Asian trend inspired fashion outlets and never in my mind would I expect a New York inspired Redken hair salon that really looks like a urbanized metropolitan salon. This only reminds me of SEX AND THE CITY!

say no more, I'm coming here for sure

AND the three guys behind The Loft Hairdressing? Don't play play, they're not any ordinary hair stylists out there. They are three (really cute) guys who are Redken Masters! Graduated from Redken Fifth Ave NYC Academy getting certified as Redken Specialist, Redken Master Specialist, Redken Certified Haircolorist. Meet Emil Khor 18 years experience (previously Toni & Guy hairdressing Director), Leong Chi Wai 9 years experience and also a graduate of Vidal Sassoon student from London, United Kingdom and lastly Kelvin Chee 6 years experience on fashion backstage, styled for celebrities, and recently did a presentation for MODA 2013 fashion show.

    Emil Khor media coverage 2013

meet the 3 guys behind The Loft Hairdressing
(that's their working attire can you believe it?)

can you recognize who she is? It's Arisa Chow
(my kawan blogger who is also a cosplayer)

love this pink dreamy ombre on Audrey Loke

I never felt so confident to go ahead with this after talking to Chi Wai and Kevin. They convinced me that I am in good hands (I'll kill them if not!). Thanks to Caroline another blogger friend who introduced me to them otherwise I wouldn't have met these awesome hairstylists who wear formal (macam tuxedo je) at work! I arrange for a makeover session for my Butterfly Project team to be the first bloggers group to review The Loft Hairdressing. Each one of us will be given a hair coloring makeover either ombre or hair coloring, hair treatment and hair cut.

The surprise? We gave our profile pictures much earlier before going for our appointment so we don't know what's in store for us until it's done! Call that exciting haha. Kinda like America's Next Top Model hair makeovers, I hope no one cries!

    Ayna, Illy & Caroline
(Nala is late so she's not in the picture sorry!)

an upbeat city style salon in the city

inspired by the sights and sounds

of New York City in partner

    with Redken NYC 5th Ave

You've been warned! Lots pictures here and selfies haha. We were assigned to a hairstylist each so I got Emil Khor while Illy has Kevin and Caroline was under the care of Chi Wai. Some picture look really funny too, check out below haha.

we laugh so much on that day because we don't know what's in store for us

this is me before the hair makeover, I choose to do ombre :)
(but don't know what color haha)

Emil Khor, he's the hair sifu in charge of making me over

he told me he's doing something red so I have to bleach my hair
(otherwise the beautiful colors don't show)

suddenly so quiet, so I sneak a peek at Caro & Illy

am I getting some orange ombre?! *panic*
(this is the Redken Chromatics Zero Ammonia 4D Colors)

oh no it really does look orange, no no no!
(I didn't smell any ammonia smell during the coloring awesome)

after washing, I could see it's red not orange *phew*

after another wash, I was given a hair treatment
using Redken Chemistry range to condition & treat my hair

the Redken Chemistry treatment can be customized
to suit the damage hair needs

check out my finish makeover! It's red ombre oh la la!

It took more than 5 hours to complete my hair makeover experience. I didn't think it's that long because when I was 16 years old, I waited 4 hours to have my hair straightened. Emil cut my hair too so that the end result would be perfect. To sum up the important parts of getting one's hair "OMBRE-fied" here's what I went through:

    1. bleach my hair (so the colors will show)
    2. color my hair (3 colors were used: base, middle and ends)
    3. treat my hair (nourish back my chemically treated hair)

Of course, I was really fortunate to get my hair colored using the Redken Chromatics Zero Ammnonia 4D Colors. It didn't sting my eyes or give out a strong ammonia smell. My scalp is pretty sensitive so during the hair coloring, I didn't feel a thing! Emil said it was a safer option of hair coloring and would not damage my hair as severely compared to normal DIY Hair coloring at home. Though the bleaching part, my hair is definitely damaged. A price to pay for fashion!

To treat our damage hair after bleaching and coloring, we were given a hair treatment using the Redken Chemistry range. I would come back for this treatment again because I believe my hair could have been so much drier and frizzier if not because of this essential step!

For the Chemistry ( Treatment ):
    Scalp Treatment - RM99
    Cleansing treatment - RM35 - RM55
    3 Step Redken Chemistry System - RM109 - RM209
    Full Step Redken Chemistry System - RM139 - RM259

I selfie for 3 days with my new hair color!

Why did I need to wait 2 years to do a ombre! Gosh. It was just so much fun walking around the shopping malls in my new hair color. It wasn't pink or flashy which I thank The Loft Hairdressing for choosing such a fabulous color to suit my personality. I though only pretty chicks can pull off the ombre hair look but I was wrong! Even a normal girl like me can pull this look with or without make up. Don't even need to change my wardrobe because the color they choose for me just rocks whatever I do. It's grudgy and edgy!

my before, during and after selfies on instagram
see me tak habis habis selfie haha!

    What I like:
That I have finally had the courage to go for ombre hair and it turns out to be awesome, a nice dark red to pinkish red ends. Love it so much! My fiance and friends said it look good on me. I feel so sexy at one point when I selfie myself. My hair was damaged during bleaching but thanks to Redken Chemistry which locks nutrients into my hair back the damage wasn't as severe as I thought it woud be (grass dead hair). It was also thanks to using zero ammonia hair coloring product (ammonia can damaged hair and scalp).

I also like the fact that guy guys wearing black and white formal wear made me feel like I have the best service in town (ops).

    What I didn't like:

The colors used are called fashion colors (red, pink) so the effects didn't stay longer than 2 weeks. Chi Wai said it could last 10 washes but I can't stand not washing my hair. So in about a month, my reddish pink ombre faded to a brown blond which I see in a positive way, that's another color for me to rock!. Doing ombre hair is expensive since more than 1 hair coloring service is needed for the process. It's something you can splurge on and if you have the money, you probably can change colors every month! My hair makeover roughly costs RM500 (hair wash, cut, treat, bleach & color) so depending on your hair length, whether you need to bleach it and the colors needed, do a consultation first to find out how much it will cost you.

Hair damage is unavoidable so treating, condition and using the right hair product to maintain and care for your hair is really important. Nobody likes damage hair right? so consider this before going for an ombre or hair coloring that requires you to bleach you hair.

Thanks to The Loft Hairdressing who gave us all a hair makeover and an experience to try something exciting and fun like the ombre hair! Check out Illy's blog and Caroline's blog to see the results of their hair makeover experience at The Loft Hairdressing!
