My name is Tammy Lim and I am an award winning blogger from Top 10 Malaysia Magazine and Cleo Malaysia Magazine. I have been blogging since 2008 and I am also the founder of a local Malaysian beauty & lifestyle community called The Butterfly Project. People often tell me that I'm a wonder woman, but in reality - if it's something you love, you can do wonders.

When I'm not wondering, I'll be on my computer searching for the next fountain of youth or hunting down a fantastic deal. I'm also a shopaholic, wanderluster, spa enthusiast and proud hipster who loves planning special occasions and surprises for her loved ones.

  • Sompotan Spa launches Esse Organic Skincare in Malaysia

Sompotan Spa, Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur

Being a fan of spas particularly the luxurious ones in the heart of the city, my heart melted into a creamy pile of mud that you can almost feel the zebras trampling on it. I live and breath spas, if not shopping, you'll find me hidden somewhere enjoying an hour or two of massage. Imagine my happiness when I was invited to visit Sompotan Spa to hear about the launch of a new line of organic skincare range called Esse (without an i, no the nail polish Essie) from the African bushveld.

escape to a sanctuary of healing

skincare that's organic, your skin will love you for it

Let me tell you a bit more about Esse. We know it's an organic skincare and organic skincare means no chemicals were used in harnessing the plant base goodness it carries. Why should we use chemicals anyway to improve our skin condition when mother nature could do that for us? But that don't mean pulling off some leaves and massaging it on your body. There's a science to it and a whole load of more complicated matters involving producing a line of skincare. Which is why I am inviting you to watch this video introduction about Esse by Trevor Steyn, the founder and brainchild of Esse.

a quick tour to Africa with Trevor Steyn (Esse founder)

Esse products are certified organic with a stamp!

I don't come across many spas that uses organic products. Sompotan Spa here is one of the rare gems that uses Esse organic skincare line that is natural, biodegradable and free of parabens, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrance & synthetic colorants. Ask for evidence to the claim and you'll probably be shown a list of stamps with a cute rabbit. Make sure you know what the stamps are!
    • certified organic by Ecocert
    • endorsed by Vegans (means no animals in it!)
    • animal cruelty free

I wonder if the cupcakes are also organic?

welcome to the launch of Esse organic skincare

members of the media, celebrities & VIP guests

Edith Lam and Jaime Yap (directors of Esse) explain why the ingredients are formulated from Africa. Giving an example that I will now try to explain, Africa is a really hot place with wild animals, yet plants are still thriving under the harsh conditions. The plants survival was the key to Esse's formulation. A few key active ingredients used in Esse was Rooibos extract (we drank Rooibos tea earlier),  Baobab Seed Oil,  Marula Seed Oil and Kigelia Africana Fruit Extract. All which possesses powerful ingredients to maintain and optimized skin health.

Just click here to read the extensive ingredient menu from Esse. There's nothing to hide really, just like Alex not hiding his metro sexual self in taking care of his skin. One of his charms really, just look at his glowing face! He was sharing about the organic facial he enjoyed earlier while the rest of us only had a hand massage. Envious! The facial used Omega 3 oils, such as Rooibos and grape seed extract high in anti-oxidants to prevent and repair damaged skin.

hours earlier prior to the media launch!

sneak peek at Sompotan Spa (inside)

During the launch, I had the opportunity to meet Megan Tan, founder and Managing Director of Sompotan Spa! (she's such a friendly and open lady). She's been in the industry for over 9 long years with international spa experience. If I had the guts I would ask her to share her stories on how she made it so far to become a successful spa owner (I only dream to own one too but I don't have a clue what the industry is about). Anyway I did ask her about the green spa she was introducing to everyone, her latest spa outlet in Klang that uses only organic skincare products! (I'm guessing Esse all over).

it's a planet on our skin!

As we aged, our skin becomes weaker against pollution and free radicals. We may want to think about the products being used not only at home but the products used on you outside at the spas or massage centres. I still remember Edith (Esse Director) sharing that our skin is an ecosystem of billions of tiny organisms living and playing a huge role in our skin's health. Her and esse's aim is to restoring and maintain that delicate balance while supplementing with actives like Omega Oils, Hyaluronic Acid and potent anti-oxidants.

    green spa here I come!

Sounds like a whole new world to me that I have been neglecting all this while. A good reason to go indulge in that green spa when I have the chance to make the billions of living organisms happy.
