  • My Jojoba Spa Review

    3.21.2014

Royale Spa, Royale Bintang Hotel Curve

It's been some time since I review about spas and well this year I would like to introduce to my readers a spa that I have visited from time to time again - JoJoBa Spa. Well actually it's Royale Spa which is also under the same establishment.

A bit about JoJoBa Spa before I continue. JoJoBa Spa is in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia to promote healthy, relaxing and conducive spa environment not only for tourists but also for local residents with various highly effective aroma therapy and nature herb products which ensure continuous good health and well being. Recognized as Malaysia’s first and largest wellness tourism Spa in the travel industry they have won spa awards for the year 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012.

There is two locations, JoJoBa Spa at Berjaya Times Square Hotel and Royale Spa at Royale Bintang Hotel, Curve (which is the one I go to).

side view of the spa, further up is the hotel pool

One of the few reasons why I like this place is that it's located in a hotel and yet it is affordable. Frequent travelers with a penchant for hotel spas will know it's usually RM200-300 for a 50mins massage. At Royale Spa, the rate starts from Rm180++ for a 75mins scrub and massage package. Their treatments comes in a combination of several other add-ons, like foot bath, body scrub or body wrap. Thrown in is the usual ginger tea, aroma eye pillow and shower.

    promotions and discount vouchers

Royale Spa will be on your left

Of course I will say go for the promotions on deal sites if you're new to this spa so you can at least experience it for yourself at a discounted rate. There is discount vouchers, monthly promotions and credit card perks if you walk in. I always spot them at the display table right at the Royale Bintang Hotel lift lobby and on the second floor.

P.S: Always make appointments early because they are always booked at peak hours and weekends. The staffs would always give me a reminder call prior to my appointment and I always forget haha!

My last visit to Royale Spa was to experience their Traditional Malaysian Spa Packages (90mins) at the promotional price of RM269++ for 2 pax. I had the choice of coconut or green tea body scrub, of which I choose the coconut for it's soothing and calming properties. The weather is so hot my skin is dying to be nourished and pampered back to health.

Traditional Malaysian Spa Package (90mins) includes:
    • Body Scrub (Coconut / Green Tea)
    • Lavender Body Shower
    • Aromatherapy Massage + Aroma Eye Pillow
    • Ginger Tea

As always the staffs are full of smiles when I arrive. Upon checking my appointment, I will be seated and served the ginger drink while I wait for my treatment room to be ready. I am always there sitting admiring how such a small area can be turned into a spa. Yes at Royale Spa, the entrance is a door with only a few feet away from the counter. On the right you'll see spa products being displayed for sale. On the left is the seating area. There is only a few rooms at Royale Spa, of which the best room is situated outside of the spa, near the hotel pool. It's entirely a separate room where it's peaceful and quiet compared to rooms near the reception.

    ginger tea

For my session today, I got to try the room just a few walks from where I was sitting. It was as big as the reception area with two treatment beds, shower, washing and steam room inside. The decorations are simple, nothing too luxurious.

    my treatment room with shower

After I changed into my disposable panties and bundle my hair into the shower cap, my masseuse came in with my choice of body scrub and the room is filled with the scent of coconuts. I love the feel of the desiccated coconut texture and coconut milk on my skin. It just reminds me of being in a tropical island. After 30mins, I went for a Lavender shower (I pumped a generous amount of shower gel haha). Towel dry, my skin felt soft and brighten ready for my aromatherapy massage.

I always "inspect" the masseuse, a young one would me she might not be experienced enough and a mature one would mean oh yes! Anyway my masseuse was still great even if she's not that old haha. As I lay face down on my bed, I could see the beautiful sights of flowers floating below. I breathed in the aromatic scent of essential oils and fell into a state of relaxation.

For an hour, my aching tired body would be rubbed, kneaded and love by this masseuse using essential oils (oh gee and I don't even know her name!). I lay there succumbing to her healing hands and fell asleep.

questionnaire to answer before going back

When I woke up, my head was having a fantastic time being massaged. It was a wonderful ending to my session. I got up and changed and when I emerge from the room, another ginger tea awaits! The staff gave me a questionnaire to fill up and asked if I enjoyed my massage. Looking up to her, I smile and nodded.

me glowing in glee, smiling like a kitty

Blissfully, I bid them farewell and happy that they're not pushing me to sign up any packages, it's quite a surprise that they don't do this!. Till yet another time I shall be back :)
