  • Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ UVA GIVEAWAY

    4.01.2014

u think I put on a lot, but that's really just 50cents coin size haha

Prevention is better than cure, that's what my family believes in. My mother, sister and myself love the Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ UVA. It's non-greasy, dermatologist tested and helps protect against pigmentation and premature skin aging. A little goes a long way for this product, I only need a few dabs to cover my face! It's creamy but upon application it melts away, smoothens and disappears from sight. I have dry sensitive skin and so far I like the moisturized protection this product gives me.

it's light, travel size & pops right open with a flip

50 cents coin is enough for application
(that's enough to cover 4 areas of my face!)

see the cream texture melts away

Don't be fooled by my how I put on sunscreen pic! It looks like dab hell a lot of cream on my face right? But actually I use the same 50cents coin size and dab 4 spots on my face - right & left cheek, my forehead and chin. I spread it evenly outward like using moisturizing cream avoiding my eye area. It looks a lot on the picture because it's cream base but shockingly turns into lotion upon application. Like I say, a little bit goes a long way for this product.

An oil-free, fragrance-free, colorant-free lightweight formula that provides broad-spectrum protection against 90% skin aging.

    What Is It?
Our daily, ultra light formula intensely moisturizes the skin and utilizes a high level of sun filters Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl Xl to provide the skin with effective UVA and UVB broad-spectrum sunscreen protection. This moisturizing, oil-free lotion helps protect against the appearance of dark sports and wrinkles. Safe for sensitive skin.

    Key Ingredients:

    Glycerin- GLIH-suh-rin'
Glycerin is a by-product of soap manufacturing and is a clear, syrupy liquid, usually derived from vegetable oil and obtained by adding alkalies to fats and fixed oils. It is a solvent humectant and emollient in many skin care products, as it absorbs moisture from the air and thereby helps products retain their moisture. It improves the spreadability of products and has definite skin moisturizing benefits.

    Vitamin E – VAI-tuh'-mihn EE
Naturally occurring in plant leaves, cereal germ oils, and milk, Vitamin E is known to be an important antioxidant and free-radical scavenger that contains moisturizing properties.

    Mexoryl SX™ & XL™
Trademarked organic UV filters that protect against UV rays with high photostability, a main factor in effective sunscreen protection.

    How To Use?
Apply in the morning at the end of your daily skincare routine. Avoid eye area. in case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately and thoroughly.

How Much & Where Can I Buy?
RM140 for 30ml at Kiehl's Malaysia stores. Click here to find out one near you.

    What I like about it?
Beside being dermatologist tested and helps protect against pigmentation and premature skin agin, I like that it does not irritate my face (I have sensitive skin). I have dry skin so it's really moisturizing when I use this product after cleansing and toning my face. It's also non-comedogenic (means do not clog pores). There is a glow on my face and I don't smell any fragrance on it.

What I don't like about it?
I don't think it's light enough for oily skin types because on me, it's really moisturizing so I shudder to think how it will fare on oily skin types? Being oil-free and non-greasy, if a product is rich, your face will tend to be uncomfortable especially in our hot and humid weather. RM140.00 in my opinion is steep!

squeak squeak! who wants to try this as well?

Let's put the product to test! I'm looking for two eager willing readers to volunteer to use this for a week and let me know how it fares on their skin! Any skin type, this is an experiment yo! Just leave a comment on this post with your name, e-mail address and tell me why you want to be my lab rat :D muahhahahaha. My search for lab rat will end on 8th April, 2014 and I'll post the product to you to test.

P.S: Yes it will be the Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ UVA 30ml RM140 product that you will be testing!

This will be the best product to control my pigmentation as I have serious pigmentation on my skin. Tried numbers of different products and none of them seem to work on my pigmentation skin. Apart from that, this will be my first time encountering a good product from Kiehl's which provides hydration to the skin as well! *thumbs up* Definitely I would love to try this! :D

      Thank you Tammy! <3

I would love to be your lab rat and use this as an opportunity to write my first beauty blogpost. Have not been using sunscreen products as have felt them to be heavy, oily on the skin and worried that it would clog my pores and give me breakouts but realised that as my skin gets older I really need to use sunscreen products to maintain my skin and prevent from skin cancer in the future. As your review states that it is ultra light and helps protect the skin from pigmentation I would really like to try it out! Especially since it does not irritate the skin I would love to be your lab rat!
Thanks in advance Tammy! You're the greatest and thanks also for the Butterfly Project that I've just joined :) I've been getting so much more motivated to blog!

Hello Tammy! I'd like to be your lab rat in testing the Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ UVA because I walk to work every day for nearly 2km at 9.30am when the sun is scorching so I think I will be one of the perfect lab rat candidate. Then during lunch time my colleagues and I will walk under the sun (again, even hotter) to our favourite warung and by the time we got back to the office, I think I'm a tone darker without sunscreen XD i was informed that SP50 is a good amount that our skin need to get a good protection, so what Kiehl's has came out with is brilliant I think. Since I live just a stone's throw away from your place, I think we can easily meet if I were chosen, save 1 postage fee :p And oh yes, I never tried/owned any Kiehl's products because of the price factor, so this can be a good introduction to me as well :)

Squeak squeak reasoning: As a (pretty) loyal Kiehl's customer I know to expect greatness from their products but haven't been able to afford their sunscreens. Also, I have dry and VERY sensitive skin on my cheeks (I blush easily lol) but an oily T-zone, very hard to please the whole face. It'll be cool to test this out when I go overseas in a few months as it'll be cold over there, and Australia has the highest number of skin cancer (eeps!) so it would be interesting to see how moisturising this sunscreen is while protecting my skin at the same time.

      Thanks for the chance!

    29. I would like to try this because I *shy to admit* don't really use sunscreen on my face. But am thinking as I age my skin is getting less and less resilient than it was before, and I had a very bad episode of sunburn on my face just a couple of week back. So, I vowed to start using sunscreen and lo and behold and opportunity from you came about to try one of the best products in the market - Kiehls!

I would love to try this product because first, I'm a kiehl's fan. Secondly, I'm a sunscreen freak. I can't go out without them. SPF has been an essential must-have daily product. I even keep one bottle in my handbag for emergency touch up. This makes me go through sunscreens like a mad woman, one bottle after another. I think I will be able to tell the difference between a good sunscreen from a mediocre one. Thanks! :)

Why I really want to try this sunscreen?

Well first of all, I've never been a lab rat, haha, so that's something to cross of my bucket list!

Secondly, I think a lot of girls don't realize how important sunscreen actually is for their skin. Most of us are so concerned about anti aging, hydration and anti acne, that one seems to forget that in the long run, pigmentation wreaks havoc on the skin, so its always great to have an amazing product that works amazingly like the Kiehls Ultra Light UV to fight off the first signs of UV damage!

And lastly (I can never do short answers can I?) I would love to share my experience using the Kiehls Ultra Light UV with my readers! Good things need to be shared out right? It would be my pleasure to review this product <3

I always neglect my skincare routine on sunscreen because of my sensitive skin type. Since Kiehl's is a premium American cosmetics brand, I'm willing to get it a try on this trusted brand name :)
And also my age is calling my alertness to watch out on pigmentation!!

Just visited Kiehl's yesterday to check out some eye cream, and how come I missed this?!
I am here to tell you that you should pick me as your lab rat and the reasons are:

      1) I have super oily skin with lots of blemishes which is OPPOSITE to yours, hence my review and yours would benefit almost every girls out there.

      2) I was born in the year of RAT (1984), hence, this is kinda my 'Destiny'. hehe :p

Hate the conventional smell, and thick greasy texture of normal sunblocks.

Recently though, my beautician has pointed out spots of dark pigmentation on my skin! The horror! Never tried any of Kiehl's products before so would really like to give it a go! I like trying out different products so it would be lovely if I can find a product that is good to stay. :D

It's either too dry for my skin or way too oily and I don't like the sticky feeling. I have loads of acne scars which is the main reason why I won't go out without wearing sunscreen. And Kiehl's Ultra-Light UV Daily Defense SPF 50 PA+++ contains vitamin e which I believe will help with my acne scars problem. I hope I will get the chance to win and try this out :D

reason: I have been looking for sunscreen which is suitable to my skin as my skin is combination type and my pores tend to clog easily. (result from not taking good care of my skin when I was young. T.T) It looks good from your review and I hope I can have the chance to try out this sunscreen!

I hope to get this chance to try out this product not only for you, but at the same time, also for the content in my blog for all the Mandarin reader. :)

I would love to try Khiehl's sunscreen because I always in the search of a light sun screen. I believe no one tend to like the sticky feel on face after they apply sunscreen, but a lot of sunscreen in the market tend leave the sticky feel. I would definitely will like to try 'OIL FREE' sunscreen, and i eager to know that does it have the sticky sticky feel that a lot sun screen have. If this is different from other, I might invest it! AND sunscreen is a must product for every girl in Malaysia despite of our weather!

    72. Hi Tammy, please choose me as your lab rat to try the Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF 50 PA+++ UVA. I'm 34 this year and I have oily combination skin. I have a fair complexion too. When I was younger, I took things for granted and never applied sunblock when I went out in the sun. I'm afraid to apply sunblock because it makes my skin oily & I'm lazy to apply it (this is the main reason actually, hehe).
After that, black spots started appearing on my cheeks and under my eyes. I was so devastated. I thought this will never happen to me! Only after that, I started looking for sunblock but I'm disappointed because those I bought are still very oily to my skin. I've given a few to my friends because they are not suitable for me. I hope to try Kiehl's sunblock so that I can review if it is the right sunblock for my skin. Thanks!

It is really light weight and non-greasy as I have combination skin, I don't like too heaty and thick cream/lotion on my face. But I think that sachet is too little for me to try more days and the price for this requires me to plan a time to get it...so haha :D

I wonder how this would fare on my drier skin. It is kinda pricey though but if it works, why not? I do wonder though if the product leaves a white cast on the face if applied haphazardly since it is so rich.

    112. I am personally a die hard fan of Kiehl's. But I do not recommend their Ultra-Light UV Daily Defense SPF 50 PA+++ Sun Screen (the one posted above) as it's oily and "heavy" on my combination skin. Within hours after application, the sun screen "melts" and makes my skin greasy :(

I tested it for about 2 weeks (just to be sure it doesn't suit my skin :p) and just left it in a corner.

I would suggest Dermalogica Solar Defence Booster SPF50 or Dermalogica Oil Free Matte SPF30. I've tried both and honestly think that they are the perfect sunscreen for me.

Personally prefer Dermalogica Oil Free Matte SPF30 as it helps me maintain an all-day matte finish and regulate oil production =D

Hope my experiences help some of you people out there! =D
