My Weekend at Hyatt Regency KL

Where Contemporary Design Meets Comfort at Its Finest

I have stayed in many hotels, but few linger in my memory the way Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur Midtown did. It is new, elegant, and quietly confident. From the moment you walk in, everything feels intentional. The lobby, the scent in the air, the soft textures, all of it tells you this place was created to make you feel calm.

If you ask me where Kuala Lumpur Midtown is, here is what I have learned. It is a new district that sits between Mont Kiara and the city centre, right across from MITEC. It is still new, but it already feels like the next pulse of the city. From here, you can get to Bukit Bintang, Damansara, Bangsar, or Chinatown in about fifteen minutes. It feels central without being crowded, and that is rare in Kuala Lumpur.

Kengo Kuma designs Hyatt Regency KL

The design of the hotel is by Kengo Kuma an architect who believes that buildings should breathe and that nature should not be kept outside but brought into every corner of a space. His work is known for using natural materials like wood, stone, and paper, and for capturing light in a way that feels alive. For Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at Midtown, he drew inspiration from Malaysia’s forests and crafts such as batik and songket, even referencing the soft texture of pewter.

The columns in the lobby are slightly rotated to echo the irregular rhythm of trees. Aluminium panels reflect light like pewter leaves, while delicate paper screens filter sunlight into the rooms. The colours are warm and earthy with touches of green and red that feel grounded yet luxurious. Kuma’s philosophy is simple. Architecture should feel human, connected to its place, and designed to make people feel calm. He wants his buildings to invite quiet moments, to let people pause and breathe.

Where Design Meets Serenity

I stayed in the Deluxe King room, which was spacious and beautifully designed at forty-nine square meters. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. It feels like I was sleeping with a thousand kittens. The palette was soft and earthy, the lighting felt natural, and the blackout curtains made sure I woke up only when I wanted to.

The bathroom was easily my favourite space. It had a deep soaking tub with electric shutters that I could raise or lower while I took my time in the bath. The water pressure was perfect. The marble floor stayed warm, the towels thick and soft. Even the plush, thick-coated bathrobe felt like I was hugging a goose. I ended up taking two baths in one day because it just felt that good.

Inside the room, there was everything you would want. A large television, high-speed internet, a coffee machine, a minibar, USB ports, and even a pillow menu. Everything worked as it should, which sounds simple but says a lot. The view looked out toward MITEC and the midtown precinct, not a skyline, but peaceful in its own way.

The hotel’s facilities were equally impressive. The gym is open all day and night and comes with modern machines, trainers on call, and plenty of space. The sauna and changing rooms are well designed too. The swimming pool on the fifth floor opens up to the city skyline and feels peaceful, especially in the morning. Families staying longer can enjoy the Kids Club, which is located on the residence side.

Afternoon Tea at Midtown Lounge

Food here is an experience. The buffets are prepared fresh from a live kitchen, and everything feels alive with energy and flavour. Midtown Brasserie is where mornings begin with comfort and warmth. The breakfast buffet is one of the best I have had in KL. You can taste how fresh everything is, from the nasi lemak with rich sambal sotong to the peanut butter that is churned right there in front of you. The bakery section smells incredible and pairs perfectly with their coffee.

When lunch comes around, the buffet transforms into a lively spread with roast beef, juicy steaks, and their signature black pepper Singapore crabs tossed in the wok on the spot. It is a place where you can sit for hours, enjoy good food, and just take your time. The desserts are another highlight, especially anything made with their award-winning Kelantan 70 percent dark chocolate. It has a deep, smooth flavour that lingers beautifully after every bite.

If you want to explore more, China House offers refined northern Chinese dishes with a modern touch. Their wood-fired Peking Duck cooked over rambutan wood is unforgettable. The skin is crisp and smoky, while the meat stays tender and juicy. ENSO Izakaya and Bar is where I would spend my sunsets and countdowns. The space has a quiet buzz, serving Japanese small plates, sushi, and sake in a setting that feels relaxed yet refined.

In the afternoon, I found myself at the Midtown Lounge smelling tea leaves. It felt like a quiet pause in the middle of the day. Sitting there with tea in hand, surrounded by the warm tones and textures of the space, I found myself admiring the interior design by Kengo Kuma, who gave this hotel its calm and timeless soul. It is the kind of place that reminds you to slow down and enjoy the moment.

The hotel also has a grand ballroom and sixteen event spaces that are beautifully lit with natural daylight and warm wood tones. It is the kind of place you would want for weddings or elegant private events.

What impressed me most was how much thought went into sustainability. The hotel was built to meet GreenRE Gold standards, which means it uses nature-inspired and environmentally friendly materials throughout its design. The larger Midtown precinct will include offices, retail, and residences built with the same focus on sustainable development and good connectivity.

If you are looking for a place in Kuala Lumpur that feels calm but connected, this is it. It is close enough to everything yet still feels like an escape. I cannot wait to return to try their brunch next.
