Cellnique Skincare for Sensitive & Dehydrated Skin

I had the pleasure of reviewing 4 skincare products from Cellinique which was sent to me in February. However I could not review them as I was attached to another skincare campaign which requires me to only use their products exclusively. A short introduction on Cellnique, which started in 1997 with a unique brand concept whereby they are the first beauty saloon brand product line that blended medical in skin care products and provided in-depth beauty knowledge to their customers. Some of you may be aware of the beauty saloon Cres or Cres Slimming Center? or the much talked about Sebum Action Sebum Gel? popular for eliminating blackheads and whiteheads.

    warning: these are not edible!

I was sent 4 products for my skin [combination] with the following concerns [dehydration & sensitive]. I was thrilled to try out the products, it's my first time actually using Cellnique. The colors, scent & texture sparked me right at the start. I am glad they're not creamy or heavy to use as I can't stand putting heavily textured skincare during the day especially in our hot Malaysian weather. Anyway hope you like the pictures, I wanted to do something different than showing them on my hand or face this time.

    Cellnique Seaweed Cleansing Gel RM99

Seaweed Cleansing Gel - A natural based cleanser with the highest grade of Algae, Aloe Vera and Green Tea. Easy to rinse off, there's no foam, water soluble cleanser. My face felt refreshed and energized with the minty effect of the cleanser, which I check was due to the Peppermint ingredient. Though the texture is gel like and light green in color like the seaweed, the peppermint took the stage with its minty fresh performance. The product claims to be extremely gentle and free from Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Also that it removes debris (yes), leave skin supple and soft. However, I am a bit worried about the peppermint ingredient in this cleanser as highly sensitive skin would get irritated by it. Said to be suitable for Dry, Delicate Skin, I think combination skin to oily skin would also benefit from this refreshing seaweed cleanser as it left my skin feeling tight and dry afterwards.

how to use the seaweed cleansing gel

    Main Active Ingredients

    Red Algae Extract
    Red Algae Extract
Algae are commonly referred to as Seaweed. Because Red Algae photosynthesizes and lives in very deep water, it is one of the richest and most complete sources of minerals, vitamins and amino acids. It has great benefits to all skin types because it both purifies and nourishes.
    Pennywort Extract
    Pennywort Extract
Pennywort is wonderful when used to boost circulation, improve the collagen foundation of the skin, and fight oxidation. It has softening, regenerating and anti redness properties. It firms the epidermis and restores the skin’s strength and youthfulness, making it a superb ingredient for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
    Cucumber Extract
    Cucumber Extract
One of the best naturally derived ingredient, Cucumber Extract is known for its antioxidant and natural moisturizing properties. It manages to reduce skin irritation, shield the skin from pollution due to freely suspended particles in the air, and acts wonderfully as natural skin emollient, making skin smooth and shiny.

    Soothing & Hydrating Lotion

Soothing and Hydrating Lotion - dub the best seller, the information booklet says this product would calm sensitive skin, replenish its moisture, refresh tired skin with hypo-allergic mist. Excellent for all skin types especially skin in post-peel condition. I do love that the product comes in a mist-spray form which is easy to use and the refreshing sensation I get from the mist-spray delights me. Smells like GINGER! (thank goodness I have nothing against Ginger). However my skin felt irritated after using the toner. Bottom line, I don't think it suits me :( but being the best seller, it must be working for many others?

how to use the soothing & hydrating lotion

    Main Active Ingredients

    Plant Extract
    14 types of Plant Extracts
Includes Witch hazel, Arnica, Calendula, Lemon, Ginger, Burdock, Rosemary, Ivy, Pine, Safflower, Watercress, Matricaria, White nettle and Capucine. All known to heal and prevent dry skin, treat skin conditions such as acne and eczema, and slow the aging process.
    Ginger Root Extract
    Ginger Root Extract
The use of ginger on the skin can increase skin’s radiance and decrease inflammation that may contribute to acne and psoriasis. Ginger is an antioxidant, not only does it fights skin-damaging free radicals, but also promotes smoothness and evenness in skin tone.
    Witch Hazel Extract
    Witch Hazel Extract
A plant extract with toning and astringent properties. It also helps promote healing, reduce inflammation and has anti irritant properties.

    Full Ingredients List

Purified Water (Aqua), Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) Extract, Propylene Glycol, Citric Acid, Methol Crystal, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Mountain Arnica (Arnica montana) Extract, Pot Marigold (Calendula officinalis) Extract, Lemon (Citrus medica limonum) Extract, Ginger (Zingiber officinale) Root Extract, Burdock (Arctium majus) Extract, Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) Extract, Ivy (Hedera helix) Extract, Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) Extract, Sage (Salvia officinalis) Flower Extract, Watercress (Nasturtium officinale) Extract, German Chamomile (Chamomilla recutita) Extract, White Deadnettle (Lamium album) Extract, Garden Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) Extract, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.

    Intensive Hydrating Complex

Intensive Hydrating Complex (best seller) - another best seller from Cellnique. Contains high concentration of Hyaluronic Acid and essential Amino Acids to bind moisture in the dermal connective tissue and to restore elasticity of the skin. Minimizes the appearance of wrinkles and deliver an instant supple and smooth skin. I did some research online, Paris B reviewed this product and it worked well for her. However I must agree with Connie from Skindeco with the results of trying this item. Priced at RM198 and packaged like a lab product where u pinch drops of sticky liquid onto you palm and then massage into your skin. I really like how its designed to be use. The texture is sticky, thick fluid like which can be use around the eye area as well (massage 2-3 drops) and 6 drops to massage on the face. Easy to apply and absorbent, its sticky but soon after it get dries and itchy for my skin. Probably my face is just too dehydrated as many had claim to be liking this product.

how to use the intensive hydrating complex

    Main Active Ingredients

    Sodium Hyaluronate
    Sodium Hyaluronate
A powerful water-binding agent, able to absorb and hold water up to 1,000 times of its own weight. It is very important in tissue hydration and lubrication. When Hyaluronic Acid is applied on the surface of skin, it forms a permeable layer to keep skin moist and smooth. This protective yet breathable barrier on skin locks in moisture which gives the skin a youthful appearance.
    Essential Amino Acids
    Essential Amino Acids
Includes Glycine, Proline, Serine, Alanine, Arginine, Threonine, Glutamic acid and Lysine. Help improve skin that has been scarred, filling lines (aging), smoothing and improving skin tone and color. It can also improve skin’s ability to stay hydrated, thus providing the surface of your skin with a smoother appearance.

    Full Ingredients List

Purified Water (Aqua), Glycine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium PCA, Betaine, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Proline, Hydrolyzed Algin, Serine, Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) Extract, Alanine, Rosehip (Rosa aff. rubiginosa) Seed Oil, Calendula (Calendula officinalis) Oil, Arginine, Threonine, Glycolipids, Glutamic Acid, Pro-vitamin B5 (Panthenol), Lysine, Methylparaben, Propylparaben.

The only thing missing in my skincare regime is the Cellnique moisturizer which they ran out of testers for me so I will be using my own moisturizer after the Intensive Hydrating Complex serum. Let's move on to my favorite!

    Intensive Soothing & Hydrating Masque

Intensive Soothing & Hydrating Mask - Oil free formula of wonderful skin moisturizing gel masque. Skin becomes soft and moist after application. The instructions to use says "every 1 - 2 weeks" this sounds very intensive indeed. I use this once after cleansing & toning. It's a cooling blue gel like texture that's easily absorb leaving behind a soft and moist skin. I like this product very much! It feels nice on my skin, I actually put it in my fridge before using so that the cooling sensation intensifies while I lay in my bath tub. If anyone notice, a lot of sensitive skincare products contains witch hazel, which is said to sooth irritated skin and has astringent properties. After 20 mins, I removed with a cotton pad soaked with the Soothing & Hydrating Lotion and slap on my moisturizer.

how to use the intensive hydrating masque

    Main Active Ingredients

    Witch Hazel Extract
    Witch Hazel Extract
A plant extract with toning and astringent properties. It also helps promote cells healing, soothe irritated skin, reduce inflammatory reaction of skin and restore normal sensitivity threshold.
    Aloe Vera
    Aloe Vera
Research has confirmed that Aloe Vera has anti inflammatory properties and promotes wound healing. It acts as water binding agent, delivering a soft, smooth and supple texture to the skin.
    Horse Chestnut Extract
    Horse Chestnut Extract
It balanced the circulation in the skin, promoting not only a clear skin, but an even complexion and good skin tone. It also has a potent anti-inflammatory effect on the skin.

    Full Ingredients List

    disclaimer:
Taking in account of the weather, my diet, my health, skin condition and type. The results experienced could be due to numerous factors unknown. To be fair, please consult the Cellnique skincare specialist first and do a skin analysis before buying a product. My skin condition is dehydrated and sensitive (easily redden, inflamed due to external irritants and sometimes due to ingredient(s) of the product). As sensitive skin has many reasons that differ from one person to another, the results of my testing is my own personal experience and does not mean it is a one off template for sensitive skin. Also I am not a dermatologist or a specialist to give an accurate review. This is based on my experience of using the products.

After going on few facial treatment and of course using the Intensive Soothing & Hydrating Masque and all four products u reviewed, my skin is no longer sensitive. Perhaps, u should have used these products for a longer period of time :)
