  • Pure Beauty: Youth Restore Lift & Nourish Repair Night Cream & Firming Essence Review

    4.29.2015

staying youthful with Pure Beauty Youth Restore

Once you hit 25 years old, your anti-aging skincare products becomes your best friend. Seriously, I'm not kidding because I got pass 25 and I still look like I'm a university student. Sure, your lifestyle, your image, your fashion style does affect the way you look but looking youthful? It's no easy feat because once you pass those years and one day look into the mirror GASPED at the wrinkles, fine lines, saggy skin, and how dull you look, you're going to regret not taking care of your skin because it's going to cost you double the time, effort and money to look great again.

I started using drug store skincare when I was 10 years old (seriously) then I had sensitive skin, and then dry skin and by the time I hit 25, I was already on anti-aging skincare. It's not hard, it just takes some research. First by exploring products available at the pharmacy (because they're affordable and it's interesting to discover products there), from friends and from reviews. The best was to ask around your friends, what works and what doesn't. Don't go jumping into luxury products if you're not at that "level" yet. Explore and try products available around you and stick to one that works for you.

what I do with my anti-aging skincare

How do you know if a product works? Well, knowing it doesn't irritate your skin (allergic / sensitive / too harsh on you), loving how it feels on you (yes, you gotta love doing this daily before you sleep!) and seeing how your skin loves it back (meaning it works). Just last week I received two (2) new product from Pure Beauty to review. I thought I incorporate my review with a basic how to find the right anti-aging skincare for my readers who's curious on how to stay youthful.

made for Asian women using the latest Korean technology

Step 1: Getting to know the product

So I receive two products from Pure Beauty, under their Youth Restore (Lift & Nourish) range, a repair night cream and a firming essence. Pure Beauty Youth Restore Lift & Nourish line has been clinically tested and proven to improve skin quality. The product claims to have proven reduce fine lines and smooth out wrinkles, while enhancing your skin's elasticity and firmness with consistent use. Generally, to see results one would have to diligently use your products on a daily basis for at least up to 4 weeks to see improvements to your skin before and after.
Pure Beauty Youth Restore Lift & Nourish contains Liftonin Complex, Red Ginseng Peptide, Green Caviar, Blue Lotus Extracts, Certified Organic Active Extracts and an Enriched Antioxidant Combo to restore your skin youth. The powerful ingredients boosts elasticity, reduces wrinkles, lock in hydration, soothing and prevent early signs of ageing. With clinically proven results, this beautiful new formula is professionally formulated in Korea to help your beauty last forever.

The bonus points about these products are that they're dermatologically tested, Paraben free, Lanolin free and Alcohol free. Being alcohol free is a big bonus for me because I have sensitive skin. Alcohol is drying and may irritate sensitive skin you see. Did I mention how I love Korean skincare products before? Pure Beauty is made in Korea!.

Let's move into the ingredients benefits as I'm liking what I read on the packaging.

    1. Boost skin eleasticity & reduces wrinkles:
Enhances skin's firmness and moisture. Rich in antioxidants which fight against the damaging effects of free radicals. Anti-ageing Complex (Liftonin, Red Ginseng Peptide, Noni Fruit Extract).

    2. Locks in hydration:
Secure skin moisture and prevents early signs of ageing with natural antioxidants to rejuvenate your skin. Sea Grapes (Green Caviar), and Blue Lotus extract.

    3. Enhances soothing effects:
Soothes skin using internationally recognised organic and natural raw ingredients. Certified Organic extracts (Thymus Vulgaris "Thyme", Buddleja Davidii, Edelweiss).

    4. Keeps skin radiance:
Nourishes, hydrates and soothes to give you radiant and supple skin, while gently cleansing and toning. Bulgarian Rose Water.

to be use day & night after cleansing & toning

The firming essence helps to enhance facial contours by using highly concentrated active ingredients that help plump, restore and rejuvenate your skin.

to be use at night on cleansed & toned face
    after the firming essence

The repair night cream is enriched with highly concentrated active ingredients vital to help you achieve younger-looking skin at nigh time. It is dedicated to reduce fine lines and improve dull complexions, giving you a fresher, more youthful looking, supple skin from the moment you wake up.

I love the texture! Gel turns into watery liquid that quickly
gets absorbed into the skin :)

    Step 2: Try the product

Every night before I sleep, I will cleanse my face and apply the firming essence. The firming essence is my favourite between the two products. Upon pumping, it gives a gel like texture and when I massage it to my skin, the gel melts into water, velvety to the touch and is quickly absorbed by my skin. It leaves a strong power fragrance, which I like because I am not sensitive to fragrance. I use a pull and lift massage technique with this firming essence.

using the firming essence + pull & lift technique
(warm the product, massage upwards & don't forget the neck!)

After, I would apply 50cents coin amount of the repair night cream on both my cheeks, the place I suffer dryness and as I believe it, the front line of my face that suffers from aging signs first or should I say, obvious signs of aging first. Think pigmentation, age spots, saggy dull cheeks.

using the repair night cream + firming massage technique
(push up cheeks & chin during application)

    Step 3: Seeing the difference

My verdict as for now would be I am going to continue using this product because I love the textures on the two babies. Using the latest Korean technology, they really do understand Asian women's skincare woes. Being in such hot and humid weather just makes skincare sometimes a pain to use. Particularly if they're rich and creamy. I find that the repair night cream rich and creamy on the first impression, however as I massage it into my skin using firming and lifting techniques, I find the velvety cream just becomes a second layer of skin, still hydrating but not overly creamy or greasy that it leaves stains on my pillows. When I wake up in the morning, I could still feel the velvety smoothness on my skin. I am impressed.

For the firming essence which I love the texture as well as it's one of the latest hype in Korean skincare to have gel textures turned watery, slippery to the touch and just envelopes your skin as you apply it in a lifting manner (upwards) on your face during application. The absorption rate is alarming as my skin which was watery becomes dry in a matter of seconds. Now that's Korean technology to you. I can feel a smooth protective layer after application and it's not as hydrating since it's an essence so using the repair night cream after is a must for dry skin people like me.

I do find that both products has a strong powdery scent which may be a turn off to those sensitive to fragrance but you know what? I am loving it as I use them before bedtime and the smell of powder just makes me feel like a big baby.

I am going to continue this for another 3 weeks and see if there's any significant results :) I do find my face still glowing and hydrated in the morning but I can't determine any signs of aging has been reduced so do stay tune :) when I come back here to edit my post to update on my feedback.

Happy Birthday CrackHouse Comedy Club Malaysia

    4.27.2015

Happy Birthday Crackhouse Comedy Club Malaysia!

I could never get enough of standup comedies in Malaysia. Granted I just discovered the exciting world of the funnies since I stumbled upon Crackhouse Comedy Club, which is the first comedy club house in Malaysia introducing comedians both local and international to Malaysians. Which is something I am deeply grateful for because I didn't know how good our comedy scene is until they showed it to me. They made my life funny, colourful and I got to also learn what it takes to be a comedian, the rules of being at a stand up comedy (like don't sit in front, don't heckle, don't talk during a show, etc).

Douglas Lim groupie pic with fans!
(Raj, C, Me, Alvin & Leonard)

one with the Paul Ogata who made us laugh like shit

Once I go crack I can't never turn back haha. It's so true because the entrance fees to comedy shows can't be compared to the Crackhouse which starts from RM15 to RM30 (depending on what's the show of the day). On Wednesdays, it's open mike night for RM15. This is where you come and chill out, watching would be or seasoned comedians do their new thing or practice their materials. On Thursday, it gets fun for RM20. The comedians do Hack the Crack, which means improv. Improv is improvisation. My experience was watching 5 comedians do their thing and later, they would be randomly assigned by surprise to re-act to a comedian who performed earlier. This is where it gets real funny. I enjoy Thursday a lot!

Paul Ogata - Problem with Chinese Restaurants

On Fridays and Saturdays, it's RM30 per pop because weekends are where the good stuff comes in. Headliners (star comedians of the show) comes in to make you laugh. They're seasoned, popular, celebrities of the comedy scene from all over the world. I've seen Australians, UK, Singaporeans, Malaysians, and Americans. My favourite is by far now Paul Ogata from America. He's so god dam good. I missed his act so much.

a picture with my fave comedian

Now if you have never been to a stand up comedy club, or have friends to bring around in Kuala Lumpur, or you're new in Kuala Lumpur, going to the Crackhouse Comedy Club would be an eye opener to the comedy scene in Malaysia. They're having their first birthday celebration this week by unleashing awesome shows starting this Wednesday. Since it's their birthday, the shows are specially crafted for the celebration. Check out their website and their facebook page to find out what you don't want to miss :) and enjoy the LOL ride.

    Interviewed by Beauty Guide

    interviewed by Beauty Guide

I had the pleasure to meet the Head of Digital Outreach of Beauty Guide early this month and we chatted for 3-hours sharing about our experiences in this industry. With that came an interview which I happily said yes. A few days ago, Nicholas fb me to say it's out! I rushed over the net to check the interview and I was surprised they went through my blog to pick some pretty sentimental photographs of me for their feature. Thank you Beauty Guide for the lovely interview, I hope you don't mind that I share it on my blog for my readers to read as well.

Dolce and Gabbana Floral Drops Eau De Toilette Review

    4.26.2015

Dolce Floral Drops, the new fragrance by Dolce & Gabbana

I have in my hands the latest fragrance from Dolce & Gabanna, the Floral Drops Eau De Toilette just in time for my Spring Fling to Philippines. I'll be leaving this Saturday for a short trip to Cebu and Bohol Islands thanks to Tourism Philippines. I just can't imagine myself being able to finally see this beautiful country and its island with my very own eyes and smell the ocean from afar. Bringing along with me it this delicate, light floral fragrance which is anything but overpowering. It's refreshing just like when you wake up on a Sunday in your warm bed, covered in your big blanket and the morning sun greets you just with a glimmer of hope. You open your curtains and breath in the fresh air from your garden and go ahhhh. That's Spring and it makes my heart flutters.

Meeting Lee Min Ho at innisfree Festa 2015

    4.18.2015

meeting Lee Min Ho at innisfree Festa 2015

When I received the invitation from innisfree to meet their Global Brand Ambassador Lee Min Ho at innisfree Festa 2015, I almost fainted because who don't love Lee Min Ho?! He's like the only Korean guy I find attractive ever since I saw him in Meteor Garden with my best friend. We had a movie marathon in Hilton Kuala Lumpur's presidential suite (I know I know, luxurious stay for just two girls and we decided to watch Korean tv drama for the night until 6am in the morning) and both of us fell in love with this bad boy *lol*. Now innisfree is already in Malaysia with its first store opening in Sunway Pyramid last Dec and already Malaysians are captivated by the wide range of skincare products offered in line with their philosophy of bringing healthy beauty to body and mind with the pure ingredients from Jeju island.

Talika has come out again with not one but three energy boosters that will help you become beautiful by using the science of light to target skin concerns such as aging, acne, and dark spots. Look Book Diary: Japanese Selfie

    4.15.2015

watashi wa tammy lim (hi I'm Tammy Lim)

I had these selfies in my phone taken last year Sept, 2014 where I attempted to look like a Japanese girl. I had on Nars foundation powder and tinted moisturiser in sand 01, Nars highlighter, Magic Colour Lens in olive (contact lenses), falsies, lipstick in Shu Uemura rose pink, and Shu Uemura's Karl Lagerfeld Christmas eye palette (for smokey eyes) and for blusher, it was Dior Spring's blusher (can't remember what shade, but it was light pink coral). The whole look made me fair and with my squinty eyes, I think I'm close to looking like a Japanese with my dark straight hair.

Boyce Avenue Live in Kuala Lumpur 2015

    love love love Boyce Avenue!!!

From my previous post about Boyce Avenue (the acoustic band that became a youtube sensation) I just wanted to update what happened after my post about it. I did go to the concert at KL Life Centre on 12.02.15 with my friends. It rained heavily but we all manage to get there just in a knick of time. The atmosphere was intense, the crowd was overwhelming, and there's even a goat brought in by the organisers to signify luck (since this is the year of the goat). Being there in front of my favourite band was surreal. I wanted to scream, dance and shout. Their voices, oh so dreamy. It was nothing compared to watching them on youtube. I just wish we were seated in a bar enjoying our drinks while listening to them play. I am too old to be standing in a concert for 2 hours haha but it was great anyway because we could jump up and down and dance freely. The VIP area was crowded, so I doubt they could dance there. Me and my friends, we loved the show and the songs played. Boyce Avenue will always have a special place in my heart, their songs were there in times of loneliness and has helped put a smile to my face when I moved out of my "home" last year September, 2014. It was great to see them in Malaysia and I hope they return again to serenade us all.

My Interview with Godfrey Gao, SK-II Men Global Brand Ambassador

    4.11.2015

meet Gofrey Gao, SK-II Men Ambassador

You can't help but fall in love with such a gorgeous man like Godfrey Gao, the suave Taiwanese-Canadian angel sent from heaven who's mother is actually Malaysian! (George Town, Penang). I had the opportunity to interview this hunk back in January when Godfrey Gao, SK-II Men Global Brand Ambassador came to Malaysia to launch the first SK-II #ChangeDestiny Museum at 1 Utama Shopping Center. The SK-II #ChangeDestiny Museum is a experiential journey of how one can change their skin destiny with SK-II.

Look Book Diary: Rocker Chic Collection Cosmetics

ever wonder how I created this look?

This rocker chic look was the most fun of all looks that I did for Collection Cosmetics (UK). It didn't need much skills in applying make up, all I needed to do is play up the smoky eyes using the make up palette which wasn't that pigmented so a lot of layering is needed, which still didn't give me that intense smokey eye look. The eye liner helped a lot in giving me that death stare. I wanted to look like a mean biatch so kept a calm and deep look while holding up my necklace which turns out to be useful because the picture above was product of my pose. Oh yeah... I messed up my hair (at least I tried, but because my hair was straighten it didn't stay messy long). Only a few takes on my phone and I got the one picture needed :) awesome right for a beginner.

the glamour glitz behind the scenes selfies

I'm clearing my Dropbox storage since I'm not paying for a premium account, it's a pity to delete my pictures away so I'm going to publish all the "selfies" I've taken when I'm on a make up review. This one here is a collection of looks using Collection Cosmetics (UK). I woke up in the morning and started using the make up to create a more mature glamorous look for a black dress event. I took pictures with my phone and tried to give that sly look and using my hands to create a more elegant feminine pose. Anyway I love the lipstick colour in this look, one which I will continue to repurchase. Leave a comment let me know if you like what I'm doing?

    My Tattoo Experience: Getting Inked!

    4.10.2015

    inspired by freedom

I always wanted a tattoo, but my family would totally kill me for it.  I am old enough to make my decisions, and I don't believe it will bring me to hell. I also have life insurance thanks to AIA should my family decides to kill me. You would ask, why tattoo? Well, I always wanted one as a form of self-expression. I wouldn't go all yakuza on myself; I just want something simple, beautiful and meaningful. Hence, I got freedom tattoo on my back, a reminder that I am free to live my life. I google tattoos and sparrows with dandelions spoke best to my heart. I decided I would get two tattoos (and it's my first time o brave yeah!).

    10 Things About Me

    4.05.2015

I'm a free spirited writer who owns a blog

I'll try to keep this short and sweet so you don't start snoring on the keyboard. My Christian name is Tammy which means "palm tree" but I know my mom named me after Tammy Wynette the country singer. I'm a Malaysian Chinese if you're wondering what breed of human I am. My Chinese name is 林翠恩 which means jade of kindness / grace which just so explains why I have so much heart for people around me (a weakness imho). According to my personality trait, I'm a ENFP - a free spirited person. There's only 7% of people like me in the population (like seriously?).
How I started Blogging? I was a hardcore World of Warcraft (WOW - MMPORG) gamer for 6 years. After losing sense of time, I quit and started a blog called Plusizekitten (big, bold & beautiful). Blogging started out as a passion, the innate desire to share about my experiences be it as a consumer or as a woman in Malaysia. Blogging in short, has changed who I am and shaped me to be a better person, a person who's more open and sociable. It brought me to places I never imagine, experience things I never thought I'll get to feel. I've been blogging for over 6 years now and my followers are my greatest muse to continue.

    Throwback Then & Now

    4.04.2015

then & now (no make up)

A friend chatted with me this morning, asking me how long ago was this picture taken (the one with the cats). Took me a bit to start up the old brain in the morning as I sat thinking and realised that picture was taken 12 years ago when I was studying in Melbourne. It was taken with a webcam and dam, you young people these days have all the technology luxuries we oldies can't have. Back in my hey days, there's no smart phone with cameras. Heck digital camera just came about and it was bloody expensive. International students like us relied heavily on calling cards and borrowing each other's web camera (low resolution junks) to get connected back home AND HOME that time had really bad connection so it was laggy and crappy.
