Impulse Studio KL Sentral
Are you living a very busy and unhealthy lifestyle and unable to find the time to fit in a few gym sessions a week? Do you often think about getting fitter and healthier but never get round to doing it, making excuses and keep pushing it down the list of your priorities? Or feeling that all the hours you're putting in at the gym are not paying off and reaping rewards as quick as you had expected, leaving you feeling disheartened and disillusioned about getting fit?
So what is Impulse? I guess the best way to describe it is 21st Century High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) where you wear a high-tech functional suit with electrode pads attached to the targeted muscles on your body, which is connected to a device that produces impulses while you work out, resulting in Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS). During Impulse Training, 90% of all muscles are activated simultaneously and the muscle contractions are stronger and more intense than a voluntary exertion can do alone. It's gentle on your joints, builds up muscle, reduces body fat and relieves back and shoulder pain.

Due to my genetic makeup, I'm what you would consider a heavy build so my body shape is not ideally adapted to pounding the treadmill at the gym like say an athletic physique is. And with getting older my metabolism significantly slows down, therefore making losing weight much harder, as I've always enjoyed eating! (Too much!)
Both my parents suffer from Type 2 diabetes, so I'm at a very high risk of developing it too the older I become and that's why I made a decision a few years ago to do something about my health and weight problem because I'm not getting any younger! I started to exercise a lot more keeping active and making an effort to eat a healthier diet. I used to enjoy running a lot as it kept me fit and made me feel good both in mind and in body but unfortunately due to suffering a fractured metatarsal injury in my right foot a few years ago (I've also managed to sprain both my ankles!), I had to give up running as it became too painful after a while.
So, when I learned of the opportunity to try this new revolutionary fitness training program, I was keen and interested to get involved.

On your 1st visit before you select a program you step onto a machine called InBody, which measures not only your weight and height but also your body composition. It displays your Body Fat %, Body Mass Index (BMI), Muscle Mass, Protein Level and Balance etc. This information will help your personal trainer decide which program is more beneficial and suitable for you.
There are 4 different specific exercise programs to choose from depending on which specific areas of your body you wish to improve on and which particular results you wish to achieve. I was recommended the Weight Loss program by my Personal Trainer.
1. Body Sculpting (Men) - To reduce fat. improve or maintain the body definition and strength in less time compared to conventional training. It also helps to reduce back, knee and shoulder pain.
2. Sports Performance - To increase speed, power, endurance for any kind of sport. It also helps to reduce back, knee and shoulder pain.
3. Slim, Shape & Tone (Women) - To lose fat, build strength, and look sexy. It also helps to reduce back, knee and shoulder pain.
4. Weight Loss - To decrease body weight resulting from voluntary diet and exercise. It also helps to reduce back, knee and shoulder pain.
The workout consists of 12-15 functional exercises per session, including star jumps, mountain climbers, squats and planks and is scientifically proven to be 18 times more effective than conventional gym workouts!

No heavy weights risking injury compared to the risks involved in joining a conventional gym for the 1st time, not knowing your limits and how to use equipment properly. Personal trainer who has access to a data record of your progress knows your strengths and weaknesses and what you need to work on so is tailored to your fitness levels. Helps push you to your limit but not above and beyond. Ask if you need to have pressure levels adjusted as PT operates XBody EMS device for you adjusting percentage levels of the electrical impulse pressure. Wetting the suit and your workout clothes helps to conduct the electrical impulses more effectively through the electrodes attached to the suit directly onto the targeted muscles on your body.
Personal Trainer can adjust the intensity and
pressure of the impulses during your workout
No need to carry a gym bag with gym wear around with you just turn up at any of the Impulse Studios in KL at your allocated appointment slot in whatever clothes you're wearing, as all workout clothing, shampoo, shower gel, towels, even deodorant along with facial scrub and moisturising body lotion are complimentary provided in the shower and bathroom facilities. You also get your own spacious personal locker to store your clothes in. Now that's what I call 1st class facilities and service!
Impulse clearly put a lot of effort into providing a welcoming environment for their users, making them feel at home, comfortable and accommodating their every need. After working out just place your sweaty workout clothes and used towels in the bins provided and they are thoroughly cleaned so you don't have to be worried about any hygienic concerns regarding other users wearing the same workout clothes.

Workouts are made by allocated appointments so you're advised to arrive at least 15 mins before your session starts in order to get changed and prepared in time. This helps the booking system flow smoothly ensuring an uninterrupted personal trainer session so that users don't have to wait their turn and compete to use the equipment like in gyms or queue for the shower.
See.. It's fun honestly!
Not gonna lie it's a tough grueling exercise session for all fitness levels. Even though it only lasts about 20 mins, it's estimated to have the same impact and effectiveness as working out for 4-6 hrs in the gym! (So no more excuses about not being able to find the time to fit in some exercise into your schedule!) At the start, I felt like I was about to collapse from a heart attack or spontaneously combust sometimes haha as it's hard to breathe easily in the tight fitting suit.
It's true what they say No Pain No Gain! For the next few days, I was like an Uncle shuffling about haha it felt like every muscle in my body was aching, so tender. Even simple everyday movements like sitting down became a struggle as it made me wince. But after a few sessions, you get used to it and can see, as well as, feel the results happening as your body gets into shape in a relatively short space of time! Once the session has finished, you feel awesome, full of energy like a new born baby when all them feel good endorphins are released.
So relieved to see this sight at the end of my grueling Impulse Sessions!
The improvements I noticed were increased stamina levels, better body posture, firmer more toned skin and muscle definition. I don't breathe as heavy and as hard as I used to when I was exercising before I joined impulse. Also, I don't feel as tired and lethargic as before so my energy levels have been given a boost making me more productive. Overall, I can see and feel a change in my fitness level and health that is definitely heading in the right direction. I thought I would never say this after my 1st few grueling sessions from hell, but I actually look forward to my Impulse appointments now. After a while it becomes addictive... think I'm turning into a masochistic fitness freak!
I'll be back!
Chillin after my workout with a well-earned rest!
