  • NARS Larger Than Life Mascara: Volumizing & Lengthening

    my thoughts on the NARS

It's quite rare to see me reviewing mascaras but when I gotten myself not one but two NARS Larger Than Life Mascaras, I said to myself hell yes. First, I got to confess that I wear mascaras like normal people do. I don't go obsessing every stroke or comb them like they're my hair from the roots pulling them from one end to another. I guess if I did, I would have master the art of wearing mascara. Secondly, I seriously failed in trying to snap close up photographs of my "eye lashes" but I figure heck, do people in life go up close to focus on your eyes so much so they can see every strand of your eyelashes? It'll probably be awesome to see the coating and separation of each eyelash but well sorry this blogger here is not going close up on the tiny lashes. What you will see is face front before and after photographs and my honest opinion.

Third, my lashes are so short that I can peek through a camera pin hole without any trouble compared to ones with naturally long lashes. It was at a baby shower that I realize my short lashes was not a weakness but strength!. Behold, H born with long curly lashes was trying to peek through an instax camera hole but had difficulty because H's lashes was in the way. H couldn't peek through the pin hole much less take an instax photograph in this situation. H tried to hold the lashes up with a finger but still couldn't peek through. Here's where I came in to rescue H and take instax photographs.

P.S: Is it called a pin hole? you know where you need to look into a hole to see the view and snap a picture.

one for volumizing, one for lengthening

I did a bit of reading and found out that NARS Larger Than Life Mascaras formula are enriched with Vitamin E and Macadamia Nut Oil. It gives you this luxuriously rich, deep black pigmented effect that goes on silky smooth on your lashes. Quick drying, no smudging, clumping or flaking. It's said that these mascaras will bring over-the-top drama to every lash. They are also fragrance free, Ophthalmologist tested and safe for contact lens wearers.

    What is an ophthalmologist?
An ophthalmologist – Eye M.D. – is a medical or osteopathic doctor who specializes in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists are specially trained to provide the full spectrum of eye care, from prescribing glasses and contact lenses to complex and delicate eye surgery. Many ophthalmologists are also involved in scientific research into the causes and cures for eye diseases and vision problems.

That's good news for me because my eyes are sensitive to certain mascaras. The chemicals or fumes from mascaras stings my eyes and make me teary and red. This is why I don't review just any mascaras out there and surprisingly, NARS mascaras did nothing of that sort to my eyes. Thumbs up for that.

the comparison between both mascara type

NARS Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara RM95
Lush. Lavish. Dramatically full lashes. Vitamin-enriched mascara boosts volume and curl with every stroke for high-drama lashes that are bigger than ever. Every lash is coated with a velvety finish; no clumping, smudging or flaking.
    • Distinctive square brush designed for optimum color pick-up
    • NARS' signature honeycomb bristles allow for even distribution

    My comments:
I like that it's quick drying so that reduces any smudging or mess after application. The formula is silky and velvety smooth making it effortless to comb through, another brownie point. Downside? I needed to coat more than twice to see the effects. It does not curl my lashes sad to say. There is no clumping during application and smudging or flaking after 2 hours. It actually stays on until the end of the day. It's waterproof too since it's so difficult to remove even with cleansing oil.

NARS Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara RM95
Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara creates high definition lashes that are long and luxurious, sculpted and separated. Dramatic length and separation in one high-performance formula. Nylon fibers hug lashes for extra length making them impossibly long, impossibly sexy.
    • High-tech bristles on a conical brush allow for optimum lengthening capabilities and precise lash separation
    My comments:
Oh I love this one because it actually curls my lashes in one coat. The bristles are like combs and each stroke goes on velvety smooth, separating my lashes while lengthening them. I can't see any visible fibers or lengthening build ups, which is great because I don't want ugly long lashes (is there such a thing?). Still I needed more than 2 coats to see the effects and it does not get any longer than other mascaras I have tried on before. I still love it's naturally smooth lengthening effects with some curl added. Also smudge free, clump free with long staying power that makes it equally difficult to remove with make up remover.

    comparison between the two mascaras

    79. Nars Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara
    80. Bobbi Brown No Smudge Mascara

I tried combining the effects of both volumizing and lengthening mascaras but did not like the effect at all because once the volumizing mascara is on, it gets a tad difficult to comb through using the lengthening mascara. Plus with its quick drying, it leaves me no time to quickly move from one mascara to another to seal the deal. Both mascaras are okay in my opinion. They aren't great but when you compared the formula and taking into account that it has been tested and confirm safe for contact lens wearer (good news for sensitive eye people like me) they might just be the right kind of mascaras for you.

With that long staying power, you can cry all you want and they still won't budge. If you have oily skin around your eyes, expect some smudging because while it's waterproof, its not oil proof. Still I hope NARS would improve the mascara's capabilities while still keeping that great formula.

Which would I re-purchase? The lengthening one of course but if I had to choose between a NARS blusher and a mascara. I'll go for the blusher *smiles*.
