Readers, I know I have lost some weight this year... about 20kg, not an easy feat. You know something? It's easy to lose weight, it's the maintaining the weight you have lost that's hard! *screams* so what's a city girl got to do to keep the weight from bouncing back?
go to gym lar
But going to the gym is soooo boring Tammy (my evil conscious is speaking). Well I do agree, I was a Fitness First member at Curve for a year and while it was fun exercising on the machines but I soon got bored and I didn't know what else to do since I could not afford the training sessions.
However, recently things has changed in Fitness First. When I went back to Fitness First Curve with my friends for a blogger's experiential session, I was shocked (in a good way) how it has transformed from the club I once knew to this amazing brand new club. Splashes of red being used conveys energy, power and fiery passion. The colors that would make you do double duty at the gym *lol*.
wait is this the ladies bathroom?! love the bold red
hello Fitness First Curve, it's been some time!
the locker room looks like a hotel
so high tech one?! using key card to scan locker!!!
What else has changed since I last stepped into Fitness First?. Lovely member's lounge for work or to chill. The familiar beverage station said hello to me while I make a cup of hot tea and flipped through a magazine. What caught my attention next was the Internet stations had not computers but slim and appealing tabs waiting for me to get social. Not that I don't mind getting social on my phone with their free Wi-Fi access (only at selected clubs though).
And if you spot something different in the following pictures, large areas with markings on the gym floor was another surprise that caught me off guard. What is this sorcery? It looks like a playground. Surrounding this "playground" was weights and equipments for training. Of course, we were just in time to watch the trainers do their rounds here *lucky us*.
this playground is called the Freestyle™ areas where...
a qualified trainer will take groups of 4-8 fellow club members
through a fun, interactive 30 mins or more structured workout
(L - R) Mr. Ng Kah Wen (Assistant Manager), Mr. Kurts Stocks (Managing Director)
and Mr. Arun (emcee of the day)
With so many questions on my mind, I finally got the chance to hear the man speak. The man being Kurt Stocks, Managing Director of Fitness First. During a coffee chit-chat session, Mr. Stocks gave an inspirational speech about Fitness First's club transformation, their goals for the future and their stand as the leaders in the fitness and health industry. How serious are they? As serious as equipping their staffs (management to front liners) for training and staff fitness certification. Imagine from the time you walk in, you're greeted by their front liners who would be able to advise you on fitness concerns. I was pretty impressed with this.
Question 1:
Me: I love the new Fitness First makeover. How many clubs will undergo this transformation?.
Mr. Stocks: It will be by stages, currently there are five gym clubs - Curve, Avenue K, 1 Mont Kiara, Empire Shopping Gallery Subang, The Gardens Mall follow by the rest of the outlets by end of this year. We have a total of 13 Fitness First clubs in Malaysia.
Question 2:
Me: I notice a change in the number of machines available compared to my last visit as a member.
Mr. Stocks: As we move forward as leaders in health and fitness, we move forward in understanding the human body is complex and designed to move with a purpose. The ultimate goal for Fitness First and it's members are to achieve their fitness target by going from here to there, efficiently which can be achieve through this new program called the FGT classes. The classes are supported by extensive training and delivered by fitness certified coaches. With FGT workouts, members will never need to train on their own again. Other new signature workouts besides FGT - Pro Cycling, Advanced Flow Yoga and Hardcore Max.
Also present at the session is Ng Kah Wen, the Assistant Fitness Manager who shared that the human body are designed to be flexible and not moved like robots. With Fitness First's introduction of the Freestyle™ Group Training (FGT) classes which combines the use of their specialised exercise technique, such as the Dynamic Movement Training (DMT), members can now explore new ways to challenge themselves.
Question 1:
Me: What is the "playground" that I see here?
Mr. Ng: It's our dedicated Freestyle™ areas and fitness experts can help you discover new training techniques and exercises that offer a dynamic and efficient full-body workout. The one thing you won't see in this area is machines. These areas are designed to focus on the movement, not on the machine, helping you get results 50% more than if you were using a fixed form machines!.
Question 2:
Me: What is the Freestyle™ Group Training (FGT)?
Mr. Ng: Called the Fitness First's Freestyle Group Training (FGT) these areas are used for FGT training workouts that create interactive, energetic experiences for groups of typically 4 - 12 members. You won't find this special programme anywhere else as it's unique to Fitness First. Freestyle training innovations such as Kettlebells and Suspension Exercise, offering variety to keep you motivated.
the Dynamic Movement Training (DMT)
The core concept within Fitness Philosophy is the Dynamic Movement Training (DMT), it's more than exercise. It's fitness that suits our style and fits your life. DMT involves the entire body working together to challenge the cardiovascular, muscular and neural systems. Movements can be purely body weight, or can be loaded for even greater benefit. DMT gives three times the benefits of regular isolation training by improving overall strength, fitness and function all at the same time.
Scientifically, DMT increases muscle activation, is more energy demanding for accelerated weight loss, and enhances performance in life and in sport. Maximum results in minimum time.

This creates a workout that gives maximum results whilst making everyday activities easier to undertake. With FGT each workout is different.

It’s all about training in three planes of motion; everyone can get involved due to the large range of weights and equipment that we offer, plus everyone will benefit from the training.
Back to the unique program - FGT which is now available at all Fitness First Clubs for members to sign up. Works pretty much like signing up for the classes available at Fitness First. The FGT classes has three global program streams which are suitable for all fitness levels from beginners to the advance.
A great workout that will cover all of the moves used in the other classes. By understanding the moves before you attend the other classes you can maximise your results!!

I'm tired out after a 30mins FGT session
(normally it gets me an hour to be this tired on machine)
I would like to thank Fitness First for inviting us to experience the Freestyle Group Training (FGT) session. In a matter of 30mins of training at the Freestyle area, I could see why this program would be a hit amongst its club members. The guide and training given by the trainers helps members to achieve their fitness goals in less the amount of time taken to achieve on their own. Maximising the use of strength, regressing based on our limits, one can enjoy the advantages of FGT with Fitness First.
Whether you're aiming for weight loss, toning, muscle building, stamina or you have a disability, the trainers will guide you on a training session best suited upon assessing you. Definitely looking forward to the new Fitness First and it's expansion of activities and innovations as the leading health and fitness club in Malaysia.
